In 1924 the German psychiatrist Hans Berger made the first electroencephalographical (EEG) recording of cerebral activity in humans. Worldwide, EEG developed into a widely used diagnostic method and was introduced in Sweden in 1937. Today EEG is an essential diagnostic and monitoring standard in epilepsy, sleep disorders, neonatology and intensive care, and provides prognostic information after perinatal asphyxia and cardiac arrest.

Based on the moral relativism theory, the current study proposes that individuals with indirect multicultural experiences may exhibit a "moral neutrality pattern" in complete moral judgments, that is, they may perceive others' immoral actions as less immoral and moral actions as less moral. In Study 1, using publicly available CGSS data and our large-scale survey, we found positive correlations between multicultural experiences and a tendency to express less blame for immoral behavior, and less praise for moral behavior. In Study 2, the behavioral results indicated that individuals with high multicultural experiences (HM) expressed less praise than those with low multicultural experiences (LM) for "slightly moral condition".

Throughout the brief history of contemplative neuroscience, electroencephalography (EEG) has been a valuable and enduring methodology used to elucidate the neural correlates and mechanisms of mindfulness. In this review, we provide a reminder that longevity should not be conflated with obsoletion and that EEG continues to offer exceptional promise for addressing key questions and challenges that pervade the field today. Toward this end, we first outline the unique advantages of EEG from a research strategy and experimental design perspective, then highlight an array of new sophisticated data analytic approaches and translational paradigms.
