In the spore-forming bacterium Bacillus subtilis transcription and translation are uncoupled and the translational machinery is located at the cell poles. During sporulation, the cell undergoes morphological changes including asymmetric division and chromosome translocation into the forespore. However, the fate of translational machinery during sporulation has not been described.

Aims: Stroke is a major public health concern leading to high rates of death and disability worldwide, unfortunately with no effective treatment available for stroke recovery during the repair phase.
Methods: Photothrombotic stroke was induced in mice. Adeno-associated viruses (AAV) were microinjected into the peri-infarct cortex immediately after photothrombotic stroke.

Low basal metabolic rate (BMR) is a risk factor for obesity, whereas elevation of non-shivering thermogenesis (NST) is a promising means to combat obesity. Because heat generated by NST covers thermogenic needs not fulfilled by BMR, one can expect the presence of a negative relationship between both parameters. Understanding of the mechanisms underlying this relationship is therefore important for interpretation of the results of translational experiments and the development of anti-obesity treatments.

We hypothesized that melatonin (Mel) supplementation may offer therapeutic benefits for obesity, particularly in women. Therefore, the study evaluated Mel's effects on white adipose tissue (WAT) in diet-induced obese female mice. Four-week-old C57BL/6 females were assigned to either a control diet (C group) or a high-fat diet (HF group) for 6 weeks (n = 20/group).
