The avian influenza virus (AIV) poses a significant threat to both the poultry industry and public health. Systematic identification of host factors involved in AIV infection in chicken is critical. In this study, we developed a comprehensive chicken genome-wide sgRNA library containing 76,350 sgRNAs, with 4-6 sgRNAs designed per gene.

Retinoic acid inducible gene I (RIG-I) is an innate immune RNA sensor which can detect viral infection such as influenza viruses. Duck but not chicken has an RIG-I gene. However, the immune responses could be induced in chicken cells by transferring the duck RIG-I transgene.

During ovary development, the dormant primordial follicles (PF) are stimulated and begin to develop into primary follicles (PrF), a process called follicle activation. Only activated follicles can continue to grow and release the eggs in the future, making the female animal fertile. The molecular events during PF activation are not fully understood.

Coccidiosis is caused by apicomplexan parasites of the genus Eimeria, which infect epithelial cells of the intestinal tract causing diarrhea and negatively impacting production in the poultry industry. The self-limiting and highly immunogenic nature of infection by Eimeria spp. make live vaccination an effective means of coccidiosis control.

In vitro tests were conducted to characterize the host-mediated responses of chickens to Clove Essential Oil (CEO) and Oregano Essential Oil (OEO). Chicken macrophage cells (CMCs), chicken intestinal epithelial cells (IECs), quail muscle cells (QMCs), and chicken embryonic muscle cells (EMCs) were utilized in these assays. EMCs were collected from the 13-day-old embryo during egg incubation and all cell lines were seeded at 2 × 10/mL in a 24-well plate.
