Purpose: To determine (1) repeatability of central corneal thickness (CCT) measurements by spectral domain optical coherence tomography (RTVue; Optovue, Inc, Fremont, CA) and (2) agreement between CCT measurements by RTVue and those by ultrasonic pachymetry, Orbscan, and anterior segment optical coherence tomography (ASOCT).

Methods: In a prospective observational study, 2 cohorts of normal subjects were recruited. In the first cohort (51 subjects), 5 measurements of CCT were obtained by RTVue during the same visit to determine the repeatability. In the second cohort (65 subjects), CCT measurements were obtained by RTVue, ultrasonic pachymetry, Orbscan, and ASOCT during the same visit to determine the agreement among these instruments. Repeatability was assessed by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), within-subject standard deviation, coefficient of repeatability, and within-subject coefficient of variation. Agreement was assessed by ICC and Bland and Altman plots.

Results: Repeatability of CCT measurements by RTVue as assessed by ICC, within-subject standard deviation, coefficient of repeatability, and within-subject coefficient of variation was 0.99 (0.99-0.99), 2.2 (1.9-2.5), 4.2 μm (3.6-4.8), and 0.4% (0.3-0.5), respectively. The average CCT by RTVue (529 μm) was comparable to that by ultrasonic pachymetry (539 μm; P = 0.15), Orbscan (536 μm; P = 0.54), and ASOCT (526 μm; P = 0.77). The 95% limits of agreement on Bland and Altman plots ranged from 20 μm (between RTVue and ASOCT) to 33 μm (between RTVue and Orbscan).

Conclusions: CCT measurements by RTVue have an excellent repeatability. Although CCT measurements by RTVue are comparable to that by ultrasonic pachymetry, Orbscan, and ASOCT, the difference between instruments can be significant depending on the clinical situation considered.

Background: The RTOG 85-01 trial established that definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) is the standard treatment for inoperable, locally advanced esophageal carcinoma, as well as for patients who decline surgery. The present study aims to compare the impact of three treatment modalities, CCRT, induction chemotherapy (ICT) followed by CCRT (ICT + CCRT), and CCRT followed by consolidation chemotherapy (CCT) (CCRT + CCT), on the survival of patients with inoperable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

Methods: This retrospective analysis was conducted with 391 patients with ESCC who underwent radical CCRT with induction or CCT or CCRT only from January 2016 to October 2020 at the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University in Shijiazhuang, Hebei province, China.

Objective: To investigate the short-term blood flow changes and image features of the retina and choroid in patients who underwent carotid artery revascularization (CAR) for severe carotid artery stenosis using widefield swept-source OCT angiography (OCTA).

Design: Prospective study.

Participants: This prospective study included 112 eyes (56 eyes on the ipsilateral side and 56 eyes on the contralateral side) of 56 participants with severe carotid artery stenosis.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hypoxia and hypobaric conditions on refraction and central corneal thickness on healthy corneas during an ascent without oxygen supplementation above 7000 m (23 000 ft).

Methods: Twelve multinational mountaineers were included in a prospective observational cohort study during an expedition to the Korzhenevskoi Peak (7105 m). The two patients excluded from the study had a history with keratoconus or were current wearers of rigid contact lenses.

Objective: To compare the corneal topographic parameters and ocular surface parameters of ocular rosacea (OR) patients across skin subtypes of the disease and healthy controls.

Methods: This prospective study included 180 eyes of 90 OR patients and 60 eyes of 30 healthy controls. Among the OR patients, 30 had phymatous (60 eyes), 30 had erythematotelangiectatic (60 eyes) and 30 had papulopustular skin types (60 eyes).

The aim of this retrospective study was to compare corneal parameters and compliance using a Pentacam HR-Scheimpflug (Pentacam HR) and a swept-source OCT Casia (Casia) in keratoconus (KC) patients post penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) and KC patients without PKP, as well as a control group. Pachymetry measurements were also analyzed using a spectral domain OCT Solix (OCT Solix), Pentacam HR, and Casia. The study included 71 patients (136 keratoconic eyes; group A), 86 eyes with KC post-PKP (group B), 50 eyes with KC without PKP (group C), and 52 control participants (104 eyes).
