Phytochemical investigation of a chloroform-soluble fraction of the freeze-dried fruits of Garcinia mangostana (Clusiaceace) with anticomplement activity in the classical pathway led to the identification of five known xanthones. The structures of these compounds were confirmed by interpretation of NMR and MS spectroscopic data. Of the isolates obtained, 1-isomangostin and garcinone E were found to be active constituents in the anticomplement assay used.

The herbal extracts of four traditional plants; namely leaves, fruits leaves, and seeds, were identified for their main constituents using UHPLC/QTOF-MS/MS. Then, a pharmacology-based analysis and molecular docking verification were established targeting the evaluation of each individual herbal extract for their antidiabetic/anti-obesity potential besides their safety. Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats were used to evaluate antiobesity and insulinotropic effects against insulin (10 U/Kg, IP) and metformin (100 mg/Kg, per oral) as standard regimens.

The chemical investigation of the fruits of Garcinia schomburgkiana growing in Vietnam led to the isolation of a new anofinic acid derivative, 5-hydroxy-8-methoxyanofinic acid (1), a new xanthone, xanthoschome C (2), and a known synthetic phenolic analogue, 4-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-2-(4-hydroxybenzyl) phenol (3), along with seven known xanthones (4-10). The structures of all isolated compounds were determined using spectroscopic techniques (NMR and MS), in conjunction with comparison to existing literature data. All isolated compounds were assessed for their α-glucosidase inhibitory activity and showed significant inhibition, with IC50 values ranging from 12.
