Pre-training and fine-tuning have become popular due to the rich representations embedded in large pre-trained models, which can be leveraged for downstream medical tasks. However, existing methods typically either fine-tune all parameters or only task-specific layers of pre-trained models, overlooking the variability in input medical images. As a result, these approaches may lack efficiency or effectiveness.

Adeno-associated viruses (AAV) are among the leading vectors for in vivo gene therapy. The purification of AAV remains a bottleneck as it typically requires multiple individual process steps, often resulting in product loss and high costs. Current downstream processes are usually serotype-specific and rely primarily on expensive affinity resins.

We aimed to develop and evaluate Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) for fetal ultrasound using actionable concepts as feedback to end-users, using a prospective cross-center, multi-level approach. We developed, implemented, and tested a deep-learning model for fetal growth scans using both retrospective and prospective data. We used a modified Progressive Concept Bottleneck Model with pre-established clinical concepts as explanations (feedback on image optimization and presence of anatomical landmarks) as well as segmentations (outlining anatomical landmarks).

Functional recovery in penetrating neurological injury is hampered by a lack of clinical regenerative therapies. Biomaterial therapies show promise as medical materials for neural repair through immunomodulation, structural support, and delivery of therapeutic biomolecules. However, a lack of facile and pathology-mimetic models for therapeutic testing is a bottleneck in neural tissue engineering research.

Objective: Investigate the treatment patterns and prescribers of stimulants for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in young people in New South Wales (NSW).
Method: Longitudinal cohort study of persons born after 1983 and prescribed stimulants for ADHD as per the NSW Ministry of Health Controlled Drugs Data Collection. Results were analyzed descriptively: a) treatment prevalence by year; age; sex; b) speciality of prescribers over time; c) rate of transition from paediatrics to adult psychiatry.
