We have prepared a degenerate gas of fermionic atoms which move in two dimensions while the motion in the third dimension is "frozen" by tight confinement and low temperature. In situ imaging provides direct measurement of the density profile and temperature. The gas is confined in a defect-free optical potential, and the interactions are widely tunable by means of a Fano-Feshbach resonance. This system can be a starting point for exploration of 2D Fermi physics and critical phenomena in a pure, controllable environment.

A comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC×GC-TOF-MS) method was developed to analyze 25 traditional phthalate esters (PAEs) and 19 novel alternatives in indoor dust samples. PAEs are ubiquitous in indoor environments because they are widely used as plasticizers in a variety of consumer products, and potential health concerns have prompted the need for effective monitoring methods. In this study, dust samples were collected from various indoor settings in a university campus, including classrooms, cafeterias, laboratories, and dormitories, and were subsequently ultrasonically extracted with hexane-dichloromethane (1∶1, v/v) solution for 30 min.

The discovery of moiré physics in two-dimensional (2D) materials has opened new avenues for exploring unique physical and chemical properties induced by intralayer/interlayer interactions. This study reports the experimental observation of moiré patterns in 2D bismuth oxyselenide (BiOSe) nanosheets grown through one-pot chemical reaction methods and a sonication-assisted layer separations technique. Our findings demonstrate that these moiré patterns result from the angular stacking of the nanosheets at various twist angles, leading to the formation of moiré superlattices (MSLs) with distinct periodicities.

To research the value of Autostrain right ventricular (RV) technology in detecting and preventing right ventricular myocardial injury in patients undergoing breast cancer chemotherapy by providing an imaging basis for early identification. To examine the changes in various cardiac function parameters before and after chemotherapy, two-dimensional echocardiography was employed 48 h before chemotherapy, 48 h after the fourth cycle of chemotherapy, and 48 h after the eighth cycle of chemotherapy, respectively. The patients included those with breast cancer who underwent surgery and were primarily administered anthracycline-based chemotherapeutic drugs.

In particular, REM sleep can highly increase the occurrence of events in a subset of OSA patients, a condition dubbed REM-OSA (often defined as an AHI 2 times higher in REM than NREM sleep).
