We describe a humanoid robot platform--the iCub--which was designed to support collaborative research in cognitive development through autonomous exploration and social interaction. The motivation for this effort is the conviction that significantly greater impact can be leveraged by adopting an open systems policy for software and hardware development. This creates the need for a robust humanoid robot that offers rich perceptuo-motor capabilities with many degrees of freedom, a cognitive capacity for learning and development, a software architecture that encourages reuse & easy integration, and a support infrastructure that fosters collaboration and sharing of resources. The iCub satisfies all of these needs in the guise of an open-system platform which is freely available and which has attracted a growing community of users and developers. To date, twenty iCubs each comprising approximately 5000 mechanical and electrical parts have been delivered to several research labs in Europe and to one in the USA.

Soft and stretchable strain sensors are crucial for applications in human-machine interfaces, flexible robotics, and electronic skin. Among these, capacitive strain sensors are widely used and studied; however, they face challenges due to material and structural constraints, such as low baseline capacitance and susceptibility to external interference, which result in low signal-to-noise ratios and poor stability. Light-driven molecular rotary motors are nanometric machines able to convert light into unidirectional motions. Several types of molecular motors have been developed to better respond to light stimuli, opening new avenues for developing smart materials ranging from nanomedicine to robotics. Unsupervised Domain Adaptation for Object Detection (UDA-OD) aims to adapt a model trained on a labeled source domain to an unlabeled target domain, addressing challenges posed by domain shifts. However, existing methods often face significant challenges, particularly in detecting small objects and over-relying on classification confidence for pseudo-label selection, which often leads to inaccurate bounding box localization. To address these issues, we propose a novel UDA-OD framework that leverages scale consistency (SC) and Temporal Ensemble Pseudo-Label Selection (TEPLS) to enhance cross-domain robustness and detection performance.
