Background: Multifocality is an important factor when recommending surgery for papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). The aim of this study is to assess the incidence and characterize the spread pattern of multifocal PTC (mPTC) in patients undergoing total thyroidectomy.
Methods: All thyroidectomies performed between 2003 and 2008 were reviewed identifying 289 patients. Data were obtained for demographics, clinical data, and histopathological findings.
Results: Of the patients with papillary carcinoma, mPTC was identified in 150 patients (57%), of which 71% had lesions in the contralateral lobe. There were no significant differences in multifocality rate for gender, pathology type, and all tumor size subgroups including ≤1 cm. Pathology examination of representative sections versus the entire gland examination resulted in a significantly lower incidence of contralateral disease (P = .04).
Conclusions: Multifocal and contralateral lesions are common in PTC and their incidence is not related to tumor size. Pathology entire gland examination is strongly recommended to properly assess the rate of mPTC.

Background: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the first-line therapeutic option for patients with intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Tumor neovascularization allows tumor growth and may facilitate the release of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) to the bloodstream after TACE. We investigated the relationship between early release of CTCs and radiological response after TACE.

This study aimed to synthesize MgFeLnO (where, Ln = Yb, Pr, Gd, and Nd) ferrite nanoparticles via the sol-gel process and investigate their structural, morphological, and magnetic properties for potential hyperthermia applications. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) confirmed the cubic spinel structure for all samples. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images revealed nanometer-scale dimensions and nearly spherical morphology.

Oxyntic gland adenomas (OGAs) are benign gastric neoplasms composed of gland-forming epithelial cells with predominantly chief cell differentiation resembling oxyntic glands confined to the mucosa. If the tumor has submucosal invasion, it should be classified as gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland type. The OGAs can pose a diagnostic challenge, as they can resemble aggressive gastric neoplasms.

Objective: To examine and evaluate guideline concordance of surgical treatment selection at a community-based health system. The AUA guidelines provide specific guidance regarding appropriate utilization of radical nephrectomy (RN) and partial nephrectomy (PN). However, nearly 40% of patients did not fit a guideline-specified scenario in a prior report.

Background: PR/SET domain 16 (PRDM16) is an important transcription factor in the differentiation process of brown adipocytes, which plays an important role in maintaining the special morphological characteristics and cellular function of brown adipocytes. However, the role of PRDM16 in human colorectal cancer (CRC) is currently unknown.
Methods: Methylation sequencing, methylation-specific PCR (MSP), multiple bioinformatics analyses, Co-Immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) assay and Immunofluorescence (IF) staining, in vitro and in vivo functional experiments were performed to study the biological role of PRDM16 in CRC progression.
