Nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs) are widely used in biosensing, catalysis, and energy storage due to their excellent conductivity, high specific surface area, unique quantum size effects, and optical properties. In this paper, we successfully synthesized N-GQDs using a facile hydrothermal approach and investigated the effects of different hydrothermal temperatures and times on the morphology and structure of N-GQDs. The results indicated that the size of N-GQDs gradually increased and they eventually aggregated into graphene fragments with increasing temperature or reaction time.

The development of highly efficient and selective ozonation catalysts is crucial for enhancing the treatment of nitrogen-containing wastewater. In this study, a Co/Mg(OH) nano-hexagonal sheets ozonation catalyst was prepared by one-pot hydrothermal method, and the structural characteristics of this catalyst were comprehensively analyzed. The O/O ratio of this catalyst was 41.

SnSe with high theoretical capacity has been identified as an emerging anode candidate for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, the rate performance and cycling performance of this material in practical applications are still limited by unavoidable volume expansion and low conductivity. In this work, we designed and synthesized nitrogen-doped carbon-coated SnSe/C-N composites using 2-aminoterephthalic acid (CHNO) as a nitrogen-containing compound for modification by hydrothermal and vacuum calcination methods to achieve efficient utilization of active sites and optimization of the electronic structure.

Spirulina platensis contains abundant nitrogen-containing organics, which might react with derivatives of cellulose/lignin during hydrothermal carbonization (HTC), probably affecting yield, property of hydrochar, and pore development in activation of hydrochar. This was investigated herein by conducting co-HTC of spirulina platensis with cellulose, lignin, and sawdust at 260 °C and subsequent activation of the resulting hydrochars with KCO at 800 °C. The results showed that cross-condensation of spirulina platensis-derived proteins with cellulose/lignin-derived ketones and phenolics did take place in the co-HTC, forming more π-conjugated heavier organics, retaining more nitrogen species in hydrochar, reducing yields of hydrochar, making the hydrochar more aromatic and increasing the thermal stability and resistivity towards activation.

The hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of composite household waste (CHW) was investigated at different temperatures in the range of 240-360 °C, residence times in the range of 30-90 min, and co-solvent ratios of 2-8 ml/g, by utilising ethanol, glycerol, and produced aqueous phase as liquefaction solvents. Maximum biocrude yield of 46.19% was obtained at 340 °C and 75 min, with aqueous phase recirculation ratio (RR) of 5 ml/g.
