Ribonucleosides are essential building blocks used extensively in antiviral and oligonucleotide therapeutics. A major challenge in the further development of nucleoside analogues for therapeutic applications is access to scalable and environmentally sustainable synthetic strategies. This study uses the type II nucleoside 2'-deoxyribosyltransferase from (NDT-2) to prepare a suite of ribonucleoside analogues using naturally-occurring uridine and cytidine sugar donors.

The APOBEC3 family of polynucleotide cytidine deaminases has diverse roles as viral restriction factors and oncogenic mutators. These enzymes convert cytidine to uridine in single-stranded (ss)DNA, inducing genomic mutations that promote drug resistance and tumor heterogeneity. Of the seven human APOBEC3 members, APOBEC3A (A3A) and APOBEC3B (A3B) are most implicated in driving pro-tumorigenic mutations.

This is a personal review of my chemistry research on retirement from Teikyo University. Under the guidance of Prof. Masaji Ohno of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, The University of Tokyo, my research career started with the synthesis of water-soluble basic natural compounds, including the first artificial bleomycin showing potent molecular-oxygen activation effects and DNA binding abilities.

Background: Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a widely distributed toxic contaminant in food and poses a serious threat to public health. Therefore, an accurate, simple, cost-effective and on-site assay method is needed for sensitive detection of AFB1. Aptamer shows great potential in the construction of biosensor due to its high specificity and affinity.

Accurate detection of glucose and insulin is crucial for early diagnosis, classification, and timely prevention of diabetes. In this study, we present a novel surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) aptasensor for glucose and insulin detection. The SERS aptasensor is composed of gold bipyramidal nanoparticles (Au BPs), SH-aptamer-methylene blue (MB), and thiolated polyethylene glycol (SH-PEG).
