Objective: To evaluate the effect of ossicular reconstruction with partial ossicular replacement prosthesis (PORP) in patients with tympanosclerosis.

Methods: The data of 31 cases of tympanosclerosis treated between 1992 and 2009 were reviewed. Of the 31 patients, 17 (17 ears) underwent ossicular reconstruction with porous macromolecular polyethylene PORP, and 14 (14 ears) with bioceramic PORP. All the patients were followed up for 3-24 months.

Results: Significant improvement was found in postoperative speech frequency (500, 1000, 2000 Hz) pure tone average (PTA) and air-bone gap (ABG) (P < 0.05) after the treatments without statistically significant differences between the two groups (P > 0.05).

Conclusion: Porous macromolecular polyethylene and bioceramic are valuable ossicular prosthesis for tympanosclerosis.

The use of bone cement in ossicular chain reconstruction (OCR) represents an area of recent interest. This multi-institutional retrospective study assesses the efficacy of glass ionomer cement (GIC) in OCR following the explantation of a fully implantable active middle ear implant. A postoperative 4-frequency mean air-bone gap (ABG) was obtained for 15 subjects by averaging 0.

Department of Otolaryngology, Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital, Institute of Translational Medicine, Medical College, Yangzhou University, Yangzhou, PR China.

This study aimed to compare the efficacy of continuous perfusion of underwater bone grinding combined with a -shaped incision versus a microscopic posterior ear incision in the treatment of attic cholesteatoma. Clinical trials were prospective studies from the Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital. Adult patients with middle ear cholesteatoma requiring ear surgery agreed to participate between September 2019 and September 2023 (age > 18).

Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Department, Sancaktepe Sehit Prof. Dr. Ilhan Varank Training and Research Hospital, Emek Mahallesi, Namık Kemal Caddesi No:54, 34785, Sancaktepe, Istanbul, Turkey.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the hearing outcomes of patients who underwent different type 4 tympanoplasty techniques.

Methods: Patients who underwent tympanoplasty for chronic otitis media and were treated with cortical bone total ossicular prosthesis supported with crescent-shaped cartilage (Group 1), cortical bone total ossicular prosthesis (Group 2) and titanium total ossicular prosthesis (Group 3) were included in the study. Hearing outcomes were evaluated and compared with audiological tests performed before and at least 1 year after surgery.

Background: Congenital aural atresia (CAA) is a complex condition that can present in various forms, including Schuknecht type B stenosis, characterized by a congenitally narrow bony external auditory canal (EAC). This study aims to evaluate the long-term surgical outcomes of canal-tympanoplasty in patients with CAA Schuknecht type B.

Methods: The study included 21 ears diagnosed with CAA Schuknecht type B that underwent canal-tympanoplasty.
