Article Abstract

We have studied the aqueous solution synthesis of divalent tin oxide (SnO) nanostructures, changes in their optical absorption behavior, and their photoelectrochemical properties. A number of SnO nanostructures including sheets and wires, and their composite morphologies were obtained in aqueous solution containing urea at low temperatures. Parallel control of both oxidation state and morphology was achieved through the urea-mediated solution process. Nanoscale morphological variation facilitated changes in optical absorption behavior and the generation of a photocurrent. As for the nanostructured SnO, the absorption of visible light decreased and absorption in UV region increased. In contrast, bulk black SnO crystals showed strong absorption over the entire range of UV to visible light. A photocurrent was generated from the SnO nanostructures with irradiation of UV and visible light.

Multicolor emission and dynamic color tuning with large spectral range are challenging to realize but critically important in many areas of technology and daily life, such as general lighting, display, multicolor detection and multi-band communication. Herein, we report an excitation-power-dependent color-tuning emission from an individual Sn-doped CdS nanowire with a large spectral range and continuous color tuning. Its photoluminescence (PL) spectrum shows a broad trap-state emission band out of Sn dopants, which is superposed by whispering-gallery (WG) microcavity due to the nanostructure size and its structure, besides the CdS band-edge emission.

This article presents the results of the formation of hierarchical micro-nano structures in nanostructured tin dioxide films obtained from the lyophilic film-forming system SnCl/EtOH/NHOH. The classification of the shape and size of the synthesized structures, in relation to the pH of the solution, is presented. Measurements were carried out on an X-ray diffractometer to study the crystal structure of the samples analyzed.

Intense noise poses a threat to spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) in the inner ear, often resulting in limited axonal regeneration during noise injury and leading to noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Here, we propose an ultrasound-triggered nitric oxide (NO) release to enhance the sprouting and regeneration of injured axons in SGNs. We developed hollow silicon nanoparticles to load nitrosylated N-acetylcysteine, producing HMSN-SNO, which effectively protects NO from external interferences.
