Losartan and other modulators of the renin-angiotensin system have been used for their antifibrotic effects by nonsurgeons for decades when suppression of maladaptive scar deposition is helpful, such as heart failure and chronic kidney disease. Only recently have orthopaedic surgeons begun to explore whether these medications might reduce or prevent postoperative joint stiffness. The relationship between orthopaedic surgeons and fibrosis is more complicated.

Modification of Erroneous and Correct Digital Texts.

Entropy (Basel)

November 2024

Faculty of Informatics, University of Debrecen, 4032 Debrecen, Hungary.

The end-user paradox and the illusion of digital prosperity reveal the contradictory situation in which both non-professional and professional computer scientists and engineers seem satisfied with digital development but unaware of the magnitude of waste generated by end-users and their digital artifacts. To measure this waste and to reveal end-users' problem-solving strategies, our research group set up an objective measuring system that can calculate the entropy of digital texts (EDT). To calculate EDT, a testing process of 53 participants was launched where erroneous and correct natural language digital texts were modified according to the requirements of the tasks.

Call for Decision Support for Electrocardiographic Alarm Administration Among Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Staff: Multicenter, Cross-Sectional Survey.

J Med Internet Res

December 2024

Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Intelligence Pediatrics, Shanghai Children's Medical Center, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.

Background: Previous studies have shown that electrocardiographic (ECG) alarms have high sensitivity and low specificity, have underreported adverse events, and may cause neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) staff fatigue or alarm ignoring. Moreover, prolonged noise stimuli in hospitalized neonates can disrupt neonatal development.

Objective: The aim of the study is to conduct a nationwide, multicenter, large-sample cross-sectional survey to identify current practices and investigate the decision-making requirements of health care providers regarding ECG alarms.

Scholars in medical anthropology note that, despite more than 25 years of anthropological studies on cancer, much of this scholarship remains marginal in mainstream public health approaches. This paper examines social practices, biases, and unnoticed assumptions in mainstream global health research culture that prevents anthropology from having a more influential role in cancer research and policy agendas. It focuses on the day-to-day, ordinary, micro academic practices in which differential power distribution exacerbates inequity within the field, ignoring the role played by approaches with disciplinarian, epistemological and geopolitical peripheries.

Article Synopsis
  • There's growing concern about supply chain risks for lithium, an essential component for e-mobility and climate goals, as these risks spread across life cycles and countries in a complex network.
  • Previous studies have mainly focused on static or isolated aspects of the supply chain, overlooking the dynamic nature of cascading risks and interconnected dependencies.
  • The research highlights how the global lithium supply chain is "robust-yet-fragile," meaning it's strong against random disruptions but vulnerable to targeted attacks and large-scale failures, emphasizing the need for global cooperation to safeguard supply chains.
