The diprotonated form of a fluorinated free base porphyrin, namely 5-(p-aminophenyl)-10,15,20-tris(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin (H(2)FAP), can catalyze the reduction of oxygen by a weak electron donor, namely ferrocene (Fc). At a water/1,2-dichloroethane interface, the interfacial formation of H(4)FAP(2+) is observed by UV-vis spectroscopy and ion-transfer voltammetry, due to the double protonation of H(2)FAP at the imino nitrogen atoms in the tetrapyrrole ring. H(4)FAP(2+) is shown to bind oxygen, and the complex in the organic phase can easily be reduced by Fc to produce hydrogen peroxide as studied by two-phase reactions with the Galvani potential difference between the two phases being controlled by the partition of a common ion. Spectrophotometric measurements performed in 1,2-dichloroethane solutions clearly evidence that reduction of oxygen by Fc catalyzed by H(4)FAP(2+) only occurs in the presence of the tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate (TB(-)) counteranion in the organic phase. Finally, ab initio computations support the catalytic activation of H(4)FAP(2+) on oxygen.

The topic of data storage, traceability, and data use and reuse in the years following experiments is becoming an important topic in Europe and across the world. Many scientific communities are striving to create open data by the FAIR principles. This is a requirement from the European Commission for EU-funded projects and experiments at EU-funded research infrastructures (RIs) and from many national funding agencies.

The cycloaddition of CO to epoxide (CCE) reactions produce valuable cyclic carbonates useful in the electrolytes of lithium-ion batteries, as organic solvents, and in polymeric materials. However, halide-containing catalysts are predominantly used in these reactions, despite halides being notoriously corrosive to steel processing equipment and residual halides also having harmful effects. To eliminate the reliance on halides as cocatalyst in most CCE reactions, halide-free catalysts are highly desirable.

Objective: To explore the gene mutations of Langerhans cell histiocytosis in children, and to analyze the correlation of mutation with clinical features and prognosis of LCH, so as to provide reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
Methods: Fluorescence PCR was used to detect gene mutations in paraffin-embedded tissue samples from 78 children with LCH, and the correlation of mutation with clinical characteristics and prognosis of LCH in children was analyzed.
Results: Among the 78 children, 41 cases (52.

The complete manipulation of Jones matrix phase-channels using metasurfaces brings forth unparalleled possibilities across diverse wavefront modulation applications. Traditionally, achieving independent control over all four phase-channels usually involves the introduction of chirality with multilayer or three-dimensional metasurfaces. Here, we present a general chirality-free method that relies on polarization base transformation with a planar minimalist metasurface, effectively decoupling the four Jones matrix phase-channels, thereby unleashing the fundamental boundaries imposed by conventional linear or circular polarization bases.

Due to the lower oxidation potential than natural nucleic acid bases, one-electron oxidation of DNA is usually funneled into the direction of intermediates for oxidized DNA damage like 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroadenine (8-oxoA) leading to a radical cation, which may undergo facile deprotonation. However, compared to the sophisticated studies devoted to natural bases, much less is known about the radical cation degradation behavior of an oxidized DNA base. Inspired by this, a comprehensive theoretical investigation is performed to illuminate the deprotonation of 8-oxoA radical cation (8-oxoA) in both free and encumbered context by calculating the p value and mapping the energy profiles.
