Purpose: Bleeding is the most important problem in neuroendoscopic procedures. The visibility of the bleeding point for a long period of time is very crucial for the surgeon to stop the bleeding. In this study, the performances of a near-infrared camera (NIRC) and a visible light camera (VLC), which is widely used today, were compared in terms of the visibility duration of the bleeding point.
Methods: A bleeding point was generated in vitro, and it was monitored with VLC and NIRC (sensitive to 850-nm infrared light), which were connected to two identical telescope systems. This trial was repeated for 40 times using different telescope systems (Clarus neurochannel endoscopy and Storz Hopkins). The images were merged and analyzed digitally.
Results: Statistically, sharper brightness difference levels between bleeding point and background are achieved by NIRC than VLC. Analyses revealed that the bleeding point could be observed for a longer time with NIRC, when compared to VLC.
Conclusion: NIRCs may provide very significant advantages against bleedings encountered during intraventricular operations.

Background: Splanchnic vein thrombosis (SpVT) occurs in 17%-23 % of acute pancreatitis cases. Serious sequelae include hepatic and bowel ischaemia. However, management with therapeutic anticoagulation remains controversial due to potential bleeding risk.

Adequate secondary prevention in survivors of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) who also have atrial fibrillation (AF) is a long-standing clinical dilemma because these patients are at increased risk of recurrent ICH as well as of ischemic stroke. The efficacy and safety of oral anticoagulation, the standard preventive medication for ischemic stroke patients with AF, in ICH patients with AF are uncertain. PRESTIGE-AF is an international, phase 3b, multi-center, randomized, open, blinded end-point assessment (PROBE) clinical trial that compared the efficacy and safety of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) with no DOAC (either no antithrombotic treatment or any antiplatelet drug).

However, its benefits for AIS patients with intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) remains unclear. This meta-analysis evaluates its efficacy and safety in ICAD-related AIS patients undergoing EVT.

Platelets are critical for blood clotting, with shear-induced platelet aggregation (SIPA) playing a key role in hemostasis and the prevention of excessive bleeding. SIPA function potentially leads to life-threatening diseases such as hemorrhage and myocardial infarction, which are leading causes of death globally. Point-of-care platelet function tests (POC PFTs) are developed to assess platelet dysfunction and distinguish between normal and abnormal platelet activity.

A time-sensitive, sight-threatening ocular condition presenting at an emergency department can be safely diagnosed promptly by ocular ultrasonography (OUS). OUS is a quick, safe, and portable option for assessing severe tissue damage to the periorbital area. OUS can help identify patients who need immediate ophthalmology consultation in a busy setting or when direct ophthalmic examination is unavailable.
