A neonatal infection with Enterobacter cloacae was diagnosed at day 21 in a premature infant. Five cerebral abscesses were discovered 6 days while a treatment with cefotaxim and amikacin was administered. We switched for axepim during 4 weeks and ciprofloxacin until complete regression of cerebral abscesses. At 13 months of age, the infant neurodevelopmental outcome was normal. Ciprofloxacin indications and tolerance during neonatal period are discussed.

: A positive intraoperative bile culture (bacterobilia) is considered to be a risk factor for increased morbidity after pancreatoduodenectomy. The aim of our study was to describe the frequency of bacterobilia with a special emphasis on antibiotic resistance and to analyze the association of these findings with postoperative complications, in particular with postoperative pancreatic fistula. : From a prospective database, patients with available intraoperative bile cultures (n = 95) were selected and analyzed.

A novel fluorescent probe, Bibc-DNBS, based on the combination of the PET (photoinduced electron transfer) and ESIPT (excited-state intramolecular proton transfer) mechanisms, was designed and synthesized. Bibc-DNBS exhibited a Stokes shift of 172 nm in the fluorescence detection field. In addition, the probe exhibited good performance in key parameters in bioassays such as sensitivity, specificity, and response time.

Background: Initial antimicrobial therapy for pneumonia is frequently empirical and resistance to antimicrobial agents represents a great challenge to the treatment of patients hospitalized with pneumonia. We evaluated the frequency and antimicrobial susceptibility of Gram-negative bacteria causing pneumonia in US hospitals.
Methods: Bacterial isolates were consecutively collected (1/patient) from patients hospitalized with pneumonia and the susceptibility of Gram-negative bacilli (3,911 Enterobacterales and 2,753 non-fermenters) was evaluated by broth microdilution in a monitoring laboratory.

Water quality testing does not recognise antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and is often limited to indicators of faecal contamination Escherichia coli and Enterococcus species. In Europe, data on AMR in drinking water is scarce. In Ireland, as in many countries, household drinking water is supplied via mains or via private wells or water schemes.
