Five new metabolites, fusaranthraquinone (1), fusarnaphthoquinones A-C (2-4), and fusarone (5), were isolated from the sea fan-derived fungi Fusarium spp. PSU-F14 and PSU-F135 along with 18 known compounds. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic evidence. Their antibacterial, antifungal, antimycobacterial, antimalarial, and cytotoxic activities were examined.

Trough mouth fans comprise the largest sediment deposits along glaciated margins, and record Pleistocene climate changes on a multi-decadal time scale. Here we present a model for the formation of the North Sea Fan derived from detailed horizon and attribute interpretations of high-resolution processed 3D seismic reflection data. The interpretation shows that stacked channel-levee systems form up to 400 m thick sedimentary sequences.

Compounds isolated from the marine sea fan-derived fungus Neosartorya siamensis (KUFA 0017), namely, 2,4-dihydroxy-3-methylacetophenon (1), chevalone C (2), nortryptoquivaline (4), tryptoquivaline H (6), tryptoquivaline F (7), fiscalin A (8), epi-fiscalin A (9), epi-neofiscalin A (11) and epi-fiscalin C (13) were tested for anti-proliferative activity by MTT assay, DNA damage induction by comet assay, and induction of cell death by nuclear condensation assay on colon HCT116, liver HepG2 and melanoma A375 cancer cell lines. Compounds 2, 4, 8, 9, 11 and 13 presented IC values ranging from 24 to 153 μM in the selected cell lines. Cell death was induced in HCT116 by compounds 2, 4 and 8.

Three new sesquiterpenes, named aspergillusenes A and B and (+)-(7S)-7-O-methylsydonic acid, and two new hydrogenated xanthone derivatives, named aspergillusones A and B, were isolated from the sea fan-derived fungus Aspergillus sydowii PSU-F154 together with 10 known compounds. Their structures were identified on the basis of spectroscopic data. The isolated compounds were evaluated for their antioxidant activity.
