We developed an accurate method for determining diacylglycerols (DAGs) in human plasma using a fluorous biphasic liquid-liquid extraction method, followed by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis. The lipid mixture in the plasma was first extracted with chloroform by using the Bligh-Dyer method. The resulting solution was subjected to fluorous biphasic liquid-liquid extraction to remove phospholipids, which are known to cause matrix effects during the LC-MS/MS analysis.

The recycling of homogeneous catalysts while keeping them in the homogeneous matrix is an ongoing challenge many reactions face if they are to find industrial applications. While a plethora of different synthetic approaches towards better, recyclable homogeneous catalysts exist, the literature shows a gap when one searches for a concise overview of the different catalyst modifications. This Review is designed to close that gap by summarising the existing synthesis pathways towards polar, non-polar, fluorous, and molecular-weight-enlarged catalysts and by examining their respective synthesis routes with a focus on modular and late-stage approaches.

This study shows that phosphorus sources can be recycled using the appropriate fluorous phosphine in the Wittig reaction. The designed fluorous phosphine, which has an ethylene spacer between its phosphorus atom and the perfluoroalkyl group, was synthesized from air-stable phosphine reagents. The synthesized phosphine can be used for the Wittig reaction process to obtain various alkenes in adequate yields and stereoselectivity.

Conventional drug delivery systems face unsatisfactory loading efficiency, poor biological bypass, and uncontrollable release, which are great barriers for improving the treatment of many diseases. Herein, a proof-of-concept of a fluorous biphase drug delivery system (FB-DDS) trigged by low frequency ultrasound (LFUS) is proposed for the first time, where promoted incorporation and stabilization of therapeutic agents in nanocarriers was achieved through fluorine-fluorine interactions, and the encapsulated drugs were controllably released by external sources, resulting in minimized nonspecific toxicity and enhanced therapeutic efficacy. The FB-DDS was constructed from monodisperse, discoidal porous silicon particles (PSP) and was functionalized with 1,1,2,2-perfluorodecyltrimethoxysilane (FAS17) for loading perfluoropentane (PFP) and fluorinated drugs through fluorine-fluorine interactions.

A fluorophilic fluorescent probe based on a perfluoroalkyl-substituted bis(binaphthyl) compound was designed and synthesized. It displayed a highly enantioselective fluorescence response toward structurally diverse amino acids in a biphasic fluorous/aqueous system with enantiomeric fluorescent enhancement ratio (ef; ΔI /ΔI ) values up to 45.2 (histidine).
