The title compound, [Ni(H(2)O)(6)][Ni(SO(4))(2)(C(10)H(24)N(4))].2H(2)O, is an unusual compound in that it is composed of a hexaaqua complex, formally a dication, and a mixed-donor complex (four N and two O atoms), formally a dianion, with substantial charge separation between the two nickel centres (6.536 A). The homoleptic dication complex consists of the weaker-field ligands, whilst the dianion retains the coordination of all the higher-field donors. Both nickel ions are located at centres of symmetry. This rare compound is placed in the context of previously reported structures which emphasizes its peculiarity.

The crystal structure of the title compound, hexa-aqua-nickel(II) dichloride-1,4,7,10,13,16-hexa-oxa-cyclo-octa-deca-ne-water (1/2/2), [Ni(HO)]Cl·2CHO·2HO, is reported. The asymmetric unit contains half of the Ni(OH) moiety with a formula of CHClNiO at 105 K and triclinic (1) symmetry. The [Ni(OH)] cation has close to ideal octa-hedral geometry with O-Ni-O bond angles that are within 3° of idealized values.

This study introduces bis-[hexa-kis-(nitrato-κ ,')lanthanum(III)] tris-[hexa-aqua-nickel(II)] hexa-hydrate, [La(NO)][Ni(HO)]·6HO, with a structure refined in the hexa-gonal space group . The salt com-prises [La(NO)] icosa-hedra and [Ni(HO)] octa-hedra, thus forming an intricate network of inter-penetrating honeycomb lattices arranged in layers. This arrangement is stabilized through strong hydrogen bonds.

Hexa-aqua-nickel(II) bis-(3-carb-oxy-4-hy-droxy-benzene-sulfonate) dihydrate, [Ni(HO)][CH(COH)(OH)SO]·2HO, (I), crystallizes in the triclinic space group with the nickel(II) aqua complexes on centers of inversion. The carboxyl-ate group is protonated and neither it nor the sulfonate group is involved in direct coordination to the metal ions. The structure consists of alternating layers of inorganic cations and organic anions linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds that also include non-coordinated water mol-ecules of crystallization.

The title compound, [Ni(HO)](PHB)·2HO () (PHB = 4-hy-droxy-benzoate, CHO), was obtained by the reaction of NiCl, 4-hy-droxy-benzoic acid (PHBA) and mono-ethano-lamine in aqueous ethanol solution. The Ni ion is coordinated by six water mol-ecules and is located on an inversion center. The outer coordination sphere in the asymmetric unit comprises one PHB anion and one water mol-ecule, the compound is a salt and a hydrate consisting of three components.
