Copper (Cu), a trace element with redox activity, is both essential and toxic to living organisms. Its redox properties make it a cofactor for a variety of proteins, but it also causes oxidative stress, hence the need to maintain intracellular copper homeostasis. However, the role of copper in the regulation of antioxidant defense in bacteria remains unclear, and the involved transcription factors remain to be explored.

The integration of nanotechnology into antiretroviral drug delivery systems presents a promising avenue to address challenges posed by long-term antiretroviral therapies (ARTs), including poor bioavailability, drug-induced toxicity, and resistance. These limitations impact the therapeutic effectiveness and quality of life for individuals living with HIV. Nanodrug delivery systems, particularly nanoemulsions, have demonstrated potential in improving drug solubility, enhancing bioavailability, and minimizing systemic toxicity.

Objectives: Acute respiratory illnesses have a disproportionate impact on older people, and especially those living in residential aged care facilities where transmission risks are heightened. Additionally, staff in these facilities have been working under challenging conditions, often ill-equipped in terms of both training and resources to successfully manage the outbreaks of these illnesses. This paper examines the actions of an Australian public health unit to improve influenza outbreak management in residential aged care facilities and critiques the outcomes through a contemporary lens.

The regulation of cell physiology depends largely upon interactions of functionally distinct proteins and cellular components. These interactions may be transient or long-lived, but often affect protein motion. Measurement of protein dynamics within a cellular environment, particularly while perturbing protein function with small molecules, may enable dissection of key interactions and facilitate drug discovery; however, current approaches are limited by throughput with respect to data acquisition and analysis.

Background: The nuclear clearance and cytoplasmic aggregation of splicing repressor TAR DNA/RNA-binding protein-43 (TDP-43) occur in approximately 50% of Alzheimer's disease (AD) cases and about 45% of frontotemporal dementia (FTD). However, it is not clear how early such mechanism occurs in AD and FTD as there is no method of detecting TDP-43 dysregulation in living individuals. Since the loss of nuclear TDP-43 leads to cryptic exon inclusion, we propose that cryptic exon-encoded peptides may be detected in patient biofluids as biomarkers of TDP-43 loss of function.
