This unit includes general protocols for the laboratory maintenance of Streptomyces species, including growth in liquid media, growth on solid agar, and short- and long-term storage. Considerations for the handling of Streptomyces species and the morphology of the bacteria are also reviewed.

Although chemical fumigants are widely applied in agriculture to control soil-borne diseases, their influence on soil antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) remains poorly understood. This study employed metagenomic sequencing to investigate the dynamic response and recovery processes of soil bacterial communities and ARGs after the end of fumigation with Dazomet. The results revealed that the effects of Dazomet were both phased and recoverable.

Potato tuber periderm is armored with suberin, that consists of two domains, an aliphatic domain composed of fatty acid polyesters and an aromatic domain composed of cinnamic acids. Streptomyces scabies 87.22, a predominant causal agent of potato common scab, was compared for adaptation to tuber suberin with Streptomyces acidiscabies ATCC 49003 and Streptomyces turgidiscabies Car8 belonging to emerging pathogenic species.

strains DSM 116494 and DSM 116496 were isolated from sediment samples of the River Oker in Braunschweig, Germany, and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study and genome mining for specialized secondary metabolites. Phenotypic, genetic and genomic data confirmed the assignment of these strains to the genus. Pairwise 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values between the strains and validly named species reached 99.

Geosmin is a volatile organic compound (VOC) produced by a range of different soil microorganisms, and is most commonly recognized for its characteristic "earthy" scent evident after rainfall. Though it remains unclear why microorganisms produce geosmin, we know that exposure to geosmin can influence behaviors across a wide range of organisms, serving as both an attractant and a repellant, but geosmin effects on soil protists remain largely unstudied. We investigated how soil protists respond to geosmin exposures, focusing on representatives of three morphological groups of protists, Colpoda sp.
