Purpose: A 2-year-old boy with syndromic bilateral retinoblastoma resulting from a (del(13)(q12.3q14.3)) developed a recurrent tumor measuring 2.3 X 2.3 mm at the ora serrata 15 months following last treatment.

Methods: Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) revealed a mass invading the ciliary body 6.6 mm in diameter associated with a localized supraciliary effusion.

Results: Complete tumor regression was achieved 1 month after brachytherapy with a (106)Ruthenium plaque. There was no recurrence at 16 months.

Conclusion: This is the first clinical demonstration of supraciliary effusion in recurrent retinoblastoma. Brachytherapy appears to be effective in the treatment of this type of recurrence.

Purpose: To investigate clinical characteristics of postoperative supraciliary effusion (SCE) development following gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) in patients with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PEXG).

Methods: In this prospective and observational study, 64 eyes (64 patients) with PEXG were examined with spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) after GATT over a 12-month follow-up. Outcomes were surgical success, intraocular pressure (IOP), best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), number of antiglaucoma medications (AGM) and complications of the SCE (+) group with those of SCE (-) group.

Ocul Immunol Inflamm

October 2024

Department of Uvea and Ocular Pathology, Medical and Vision Research Foundations, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India.

Article Synopsis
  • * A 32-year-old man was misdiagnosed with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome after experiencing vision problems and retinal detachment in both eyes, leading to inappropriate treatment with immunomodulatory therapy.
  • * This case highlights the diagnostic difficulties of UES; a thorough evaluation revealed a Wnt10A gene mutation, indicating a unique instance of UES resistant to typical corticosteroid treatment.

Br J Ophthalmol

May 2024

Beijing Tongren Eye Center, Beijing Tongren Hospital, Beijing Institute of Ophthalmology, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of ab interno canaloplasty (ABiC) with gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG).

Method: This randomised clinical trial recruited eyes with OAG and no previous incisional ocular surgery, among which 38 were randomised to ABiC and 39 to GATT. Follow-ups were performed at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months postoperatively.
