Electrode functional microorganisms in bioelectrochemical systems and its regulation: A review.

Biotechnol Adv

January 2025

Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Petrochemical Environmental Pollution Control, Zhejiang Ocean University, Zhoushan 316022, China. Electronic address:

Bioelectrochemical systems (BES) as environmental remediation biotechnologies have boomed in the last two decades. Although BESs combined technologies with electro-chemistry, -biology, and -physics, microorganisms and biofilms remain at their core. In this review, various functional microorganisms in BESs for CO reduction, dehalogenation, nitrate, phosphate, and sulfate reduction, metal removal, and volatile organic compound oxidation are summarized and compared in detail.

Cancer Antigen 125 (CA125), is a high molecular weight mucinous glycoprotein found on the surface of ovarian cancer cells. Generally, 90 % of women may appear a high concentration of CA125 when they got the cancer; thus, CA125 can act as a marker for ovarian cancer diagnosis and therapeutic evaluation. COFs have been widely used for disease detection due to their structural stability, high loading capacity and biocompatibility.

Highly electroactive thiazolium [5,4-d]thiazol-2,5-dicarboxylic acid-silver electrochemiluminescent metal-organic frameworks: synthesis, properties and application in glutathione detection.

Mikrochim Acta

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Natural Functional Molecule Chemistry (Ministry of Education), College of Chemistry & Materials Science, Northwest University, Xi' an, 710069, PR, China.

Thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (HThz), a thiazolothiazole (TTz) derivative with carboxylic acid groups, was synthesized as a ligand for the creation of five MOFs, each associated with distinct metal ions including Ag, Mn, Co, Zn, and Cu. The cathodic electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of HThz and the resulting MOFs was investigated. HThz was found to generate ECL signals, but this process was heavily reliant on potassium persulfate (KSO) as a co-reactant.

The electrocatalytic conversion of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide offers a promising pathway for sustainable energy production. However, the development of catalysts that are highly active, stable, and cost-effective for hydrogen peroxide synthesis remains a significant challenge. In this study, a novel polyacid-based metal-organic coordination compound (Cu-PW) was synthesized using a hydrothermal approach.

Constructing fast electron transfer pathways and abundant electro-active sites is an effective strategy to improve the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance of catalysts. Herein, structural engineering and dual-phase engineering were employed to construct a NiS nanoparticle-encapsulated MOF configured with a pseudo-neuronal structure (NiS/MOF/HT). It was found that the pseudo-neuronal structure, constructed with a carbon nanohorn (CNH) and carbon nanotube (CNT), provided fast electron transfer pathways and abundant exposed active sites.
