A revision of one thousand cases of patients with jaws dysharmonies was made, through clinic cards and x-rays study, to evaluate its prevalence, classification according to angle, frequency in sex, age and teething stage. The results shows us that this dysharmonies are more prevalent in women than in men. At eight years old in both sexes we have the biggest percentage of abnormalities of the jaws, in mixed dentition stage. Angle's class I is present in much more patients than class II, and only a few of cases were class III. The most frequent dysharmonies are compression in male and those in anterior-posterior way in female, and the less one are vertical abnormalities in both sexes.

A backtracking heuristic algorithm for two-dimensional strip packing with rotation.

Sci Prog

January 2025

School of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Henan University of Technology, Zhengzhou, China.

A backtracking heuristic algorithm (BHA) was proposed for a two-dimensional rectangular strip packing problem with rotations and without guillotine cutting, which has many applications. An improved fitness strategy was used to select the fittest rectangle to be packed on a strip with a certain height. Next, a backtracking constructive heuristic was repeatedly used at a higher height until all the rectangles were packed.

BACKGROUND The leuko-glycemic index (LGI) combines the white blood cell count and blood glucose levels and is calculated by multiplying the 2 values and dividing them by 1000. This study aimed to compare the prognostic value of the LGI in 199 patients with acute pulmonary embolism (APE) with and without diabetes mellitus. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study was conducted retrospectively on 199 patients who were admitted to the Emergency Department of Sakarya Training and Research Hospital between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2022, and received a diagnosis of APE by pulmonary angiography.

Background: The availability of many tools for malaria control leads to complex decisions regarding the most cost-effective intervention package based on local epidemiology. Mosquito characteristics influence the impact of vector control, but entomological surveillance is often limited due to a lack of resources in national malaria programmes.

Methods: This study quantified the monetary value of information provided by entomological data collection for programmatic decision-making using a mathematical model of Plasmodium falciparum transmission.

Department of Endocrinology, Diabetology and Metabolism, Lausanne University Hospital, Avenue de la Sallaz 8, CH-1011, Lausanne, Switzerland.

Background: Obesity is associated with varying degrees of metabolic dysfunction. In this study, we aimed to discover markers of the severity of metabolic impairment in men with obesity via a multiomics approach.

Methods: Thirty-two morbidly men with obesity who were candidates for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery were prospectively followed.

Background: Infections may play a role in the etiology of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), with Bordetella pertussis being a potential agent. The objective was to analyze the association of SIDS and infant pertussis hospitalization rates over time, comparing a previously unvaccinated population (West Germany) versus a predominantly vaccinated population (East Germany).

Methods: We calculated SIDS rates per 1000 live births per state.
