The article deals with the issue of unauthorized termination of chemotherapy by patients with tuberculosis. Some characteristics of present legal base in the aspects of social support of tuberculosis patients are discussed. The results of sociologic survey of patients in the TB dispensaries of Nijegorodskaya oblast related to the issues of TB awareness as a social important and social dangerous disease and its treatment as well. The authors derive from the received data the causes of unauthorized termination of specific treatment by patients and propose new directions of activities related to the amelioration of epidemiologic situation with TB.

Tracking genetically modified (GM) rice ingredients in samples of packed rice and food products from the marketplace in India: a pilot study for regulatory compliance.

J Environ Health Sci Eng

June 2024

Division of Genomic Resources, ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, Pusa Campus, New Delhi, 110 012 India.

Purpose: More than 20 genetically modified (GM) food crops including rice have been approved in many countries. GM rice and derived products have not yet been approved in India so they are considered as unauthorized genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the country. Therefore it is important to track whether the rice containing food items, available in the marketplace are GMO-free.

Glyphosate-resistant wheat plants were discovered in southern Alberta in 2017, representing an unauthorized GM release in Canada. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency undertook a series of experiments to characterize and identify this unknown GM wheat, as well as to develop and validate construct-specific and event-specific qPCR assays. Results of PCR-based assays and Sanger sequencing indicated the presence of CaMV 35S promoter (p35S), Rice Actin 1 intron (RactInt1), CP4-EPSPS gene and nopaline synthase terminator (tNOS) elements in the unknown GM wheat.

The prevailing transmission of image information over the Internet of Things demands trustworthy cryptography for high security and privacy. State-of-the-art security modules are usually physically separated from the sensory terminals that capture images, which unavoidably exposes image information to various attacks during the transmission process. Here we develop in-sensor cryptography that enables capturing images and producing security keys in the same hardware devices.

Full-reference image quality measures are a fundamental tool to approximate the human visual system in various applications for digital data management: from retrieval to compression to detection of unauthorized uses. Inspired by both the effectiveness and the simplicity of hand-crafted Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM), in this work, we present a framework for the formulation of SSIM-like image quality measures through genetic programming. We explore different terminal sets, defined from the building blocks of structural similarity at different levels of abstraction, and we propose a two-stage genetic optimization that exploits hoist mutation to constrain the complexity of the solutions.
