The sensitivity of an immunochromatographic assay specifically detecting the pandemic influenza A/H1N1 2009 virus (influenza Ag A/B/A(H1N1) pandemic rapid test; SD Standard Diagnostics, South Korea) was evaluated. The overall sensitivity of the assay and its analytic sensitivity were 26.9% and 2.6 x 10(4) TCID(50)/mL, respectively.

Background: Radiotherapy is the primary treatment modality for most head and neck cancers (HNCs). Despite the addition of chemotherapy to radiotherapy to enhance its tumoricidal effects, almost a third of HNC patients suffer from locoregional relapses. Salvage therapy options for such recurrences are limited and often suboptimal, partly owing to divergent tumor and microenvironmental factors underpinning radioresistance.

Background: Methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) regulates numerous biological processes and diverse cancers.

Objective: To explore the frequency distribution of METTL3 rs1061026, rs1139130, and rs1263801 polymorphisms, and their potential impacts on clinical outcomes and chemotherapy-induced toxicities in a cohort of Chinese pediatric patients diagnosed with primary brain tumors (PBTs).

Methods: Genotyping for three investigated SNPs was performed in 107 pediatric patients with PBTs using the Sequenom MassARRAY iPLEX platform.

MALDI-TOF mass spectrometric immunoassay of multiple tumor biomarkers for non-small cell lung cancer screening.

Talanta

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry for Life Science, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University, Nanjing, 210023, China. Electronic address:

Cancer biomarkers have been facing some issues such as poor accuracy and low sensitivity in the early diagnosis of tumors. Utilizing biotin-labelled peptide as a mass tag (MT), this work proposes a high-throughput biosensing strategy for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometric (MALDI-TOF-MS) immunoassay of multiple lung cancer biomarkers. Due to little required dosage, satisfied stability, high sensitivity and accuracy, this method can achieve off-site centralized signal detection after on-site sample incubation.

The overview of lactylation in the placenta of preeclampsia.

Placenta

January 2025

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Peking University Shenzhen Hospital, Shenzhen, China; Shenzhen Key Laboratory on Technology for Early Diagnosis of Major Gynecological Diseases, Shenzhen, China. Electronic address:

Background: Preeclampsia is a major challenge for obstetricians due to its severe impacts on maternal and fetal health. Lysine lactylation (Kla) derived from lactate is a novel type of post-translational modification which has been confirmed to affect the malignant progression of diseases as an epigenetic modifier. However, the systemic lactylome profiling of preeclampsia is still unclear.

Are horned cows in loose housing more stressed than hornless cows? a cross-sectional study in organic dairy farms.

Animal

December 2024

Farm Animal Behaviour and Husbandry Section, Faculty of Organic Agricultural Sciences, University of Kassel, Witzenhausen, Germany.

In commercial dairy farming, the majority of cows are dehorned or genetically hornless. It is argued that this reduces the risk of injurious and stressful social conflicts. On the other hand, in horned herds, management and housing may be better adapted to the cows, e.
