The amount of incorporation of linear alcohols and ethers in HSiWO·6HO (HSiW·6HO, 50 wt %) supported on silica (SiO) was estimated by a conventional volumetric method and infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and the state of involved molecules was elucidated. First, the attribution of the key IR band at 2200 cm, which was observed for the water of crystallization of HSiW·6HO, to HO species (protons) was verified by coincident observation of thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and IR spectroscopy during thermal treatment in addition to the isotope exchange with DO. The 2200 cm band was gradually decreased in intensity by increasing the amount of adsorption of pyridine and was totally consumed at saturation, while the volumetric method provided the accurate number of included pyridine molecules.

Automated electrochemical oxygen sensing using a 3D-printed microfluidic lab-on-a-chip system.

Lab Chip

January 2025

Nanobioelectronics Laboratory (NBEL), Department of Biomedical Engineering, Ilse Katz Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, 8410501 Beer Sheva, Israel.

Dissolved oxygen is crucial for metabolism, growth, and other complex physiological and pathological processes; however, standard physiological models (such as organ-on-chip systems) often use ambient oxygen levels, which do not reflect the lower levels that are typically found . Additionally, the local generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS; a key factor in physiological systems) is often overlooked in biology-mimicking models. Here, we present a microfluidic system that integrates electrochemical dissolved oxygen sensors with lab-on-a-chip technology to monitor the physiological oxygen concentrations and generate hydrogen peroxide (HO; a specific ROS).

This study introduced a hydrogel dressing, termed SODex-gel, which was constructed by establishing Schiff base and hydrogen bonds with the precursors of oxidized dextran (ODex) and succinic dihydrazide (SD)-modified sodium alginate (SD--SA). Through comprehensive and studies, the adhesive properties, self-healing capabilities, hemostatic potential, and wound healing efficacy of the SODex-gel dressing were meticulously evaluated. The H NMR, FTIR, and TGA analyses confirmed the fabrication of the SODex-gel dressing and its constituent elements.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) after cardiac arrest (CA) is an important cause of neurological impairment and leads to considerable morbidity and mortality. The stability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is crucial for minimizing secondary neurological damage and improving long-term prognosis. However, the precise mechanisms and regulatory pathways that contribute to BBB dysfunction after CPR remain elusive.

Insights into Electrochemical Nitrate Reduction to Nitrogen on Metal Catalysts for Wastewater Treatment.

Environ Sci Technol

January 2025

The Key Lab of Pollution Control and Ecosystem Restoration in Industry Clusters, Ministry of Education, School of Environment and Energy, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510006, China.

Electrocatalytic nitrate reduction reaction (NORR) to harmless nitrogen (N) presents a viable approach for purifying NO-contaminated wastewater, yet most current electrocatalysts predominantly produce ammonium/ammonia (NH/NH) due to challenges in facilitating N-N coupling. This study focuses on identifying metal catalysts that preferentially generate N and elucidating the mechanistic origins of their high selectivity. Our evaluation of 16 commercially available metals reveals that only Pb, Sn, and In demonstrated substantial N selectivity (79.
