Strong Enhancement of Light Emission in Core-Shell InGaN/GaN Multi-Quantum-Well Nanowire Light-Emitting Diodes by Incorporating Graphene Quantum Dots.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

Department of Applied Physics and Integrated Education Institute for Frontier Science and Technology (BK21 Four), Kyung Hee University, Yongin 17104, Korea.

One-dimensional (1D) vertical nitrides are highly attractive for light-emitting diode (LED) applications because they are useful for overcoming the drawbacks of conventional GaN planar structures. However, the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) of GaN multi-quantum-well (MQW) nanowire (NW) LEDs, typical 1D GaN structures, is still too low to replace standard planar LEDs. Here, we report a phenomenon of light amplification from core-shell InGaN/GaN NW LEDs by incorporating graphene quantum dots (GQDs).

Electrochemical deposition of Ni on arrays of GaAs nanowires with n-type channels.

Nanotechnology

January 2025

Laboratory of micro- and nanoelectronics, Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University 'LETI', Prof. Popova st. 5, 197022 St.Petersburg, Russia.

The processes of electrochemical deposition of Ni on vertically aligned GaAs nanowires (NWs) grown by molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) using Au as a growth catalyst on n-type Si(111) substrates were studied. Based on the results of electrochemical deposition, it was concluded that during the MBE synthesis of NWs the self-induced formation of conductive channels can occur inside NWs, thereby forming quasi core-shell NWs. Depending on the length of the channel compare to the NW heights and the parameters of electrochemical deposition, the different hybrid metal-semiconductor nanostructures, such as Ni nanoparticles on GaAs NW side walls, Ni clusters on top ends of GaAs NWs, core-shell GaAs/Ni NWs, were obtained.

Tip-Induced 3D Printing on the Nanoscale with Field Emission Scanning Probes.

Small

December 2024

Institute of Micro- and Nanotechnologies MacroNano, Microsystems Technology Group, Technische Universität Ilmenau, Max-Planck-Ring 12, 98693, Ilmenau, Germany.

3D printing down to the nanoscale remains a significant challenge. In this paper, the study explores the use of scanning probes that emit low-energy electrons (<100 eV) coupled with the localized injection and electron-induced decomposition of precursor molecules, for the precise localized deposition of 3D nanostructures. The experiments are performed inside the chamber of a scanning electron microscope (SEM), enabling the use of the in-built gas injector system (GIS) with gaseous naphthalene precursor for carbon deposition, as well as immediate inspection of the deposits by SEM.

Controlled Ligand-Free Growth of Free-Standing CsPbBr Perovskite Nanowires.

ACS Omega

December 2024

Synchrotron Radiation Research and NanoLund, Department of Physics, Lund University, Box 124, Lund 22100, Sweden.

Metal halide perovskite nanowires are widely studied due to their unique electronic and optical characteristics, making them promising for light emitting and detection applications. We developed a ligand-free method to grow vertically aligned free-standing CsPbBr nanowires from anodized aluminum oxide nanopore substrates. Here, we investigate the growth process using microscopy with ultraviolet and visible light excitation, revealing a highly dynamic process with pronounced fluorescence at locations where high-density free-standing nanowires could be found.

Growth and properties of hybrid Au-CoNinanowires embedded in SrTiO/SrTiO(001).

Nanotechnology

December 2024

Sorbonne Université, CNRS, Institut des NanoSciences de Paris, INSP, UMR7588, F-75005 Paris, France.

We present a sequential growth scheme based on pulsed laser deposition, which yields dense arrays of ultrathin, match-shaped Au/CoNi nanopillars, vertically embedded in SrTiOthin films. Analysis of the magnetic properties of these nanocomposites reveals a pronounced out-of-plane anisotropy. We show that the latter not only results from the peculiar nanoarchitecture of the hybrid films but is further enhanced by strong magneto-structural coupling of the wires to the surrounding matrix.
