High order resonances between fundamental core mode and cladding LP(01) supermodes are demonstrated in long period fiber gratings (LPFGs) inscribed in all-solid photonic bandgap fibers for the first time to our knowledge. The resonance wavelengths of the LPFGs calculated by way of photonic bandgap theory agree with the experimental results. The temperature responses of these resonance peaks have been theoretically and experimentally investigated. In addition, the mechanism of LPFG formation has been researched deeply through coupled-mode theory (CMT) and the cutback experiments.

Multidirectional strain sensors are of technological importance for wearable devices and soft robots. Here, we report that flexible materials capable of multidirectional anisotropic strain sensing can be constructed leveraging diffusion-induced infiltration of monomers and in situ polymerization of metal ion-containing double network hydrogels in and on the surface of micro-corrugated chiral nematic cellulose nanocrystal/glucose films. Integrating the micro-corrugated cellulose nanocrystal/glucose chiral nematic films with ionic conductive hydrogels of PAA-co-AAm/sodium alginate/Al endows the materials with multidirectional mechanoelectrical resistivity and mechanochromism anisotropy.

Electrocatalytic NO reduction (NORR) to NH represents a promising approach for converting hazardous NO waste gases into high-value NH products under ambient conditions. However, exploring stable, low-cost, and highly efficient catalysts to enhance the NO-to-NH conversion process remains a significant challenge. Herein, through systematic computational studies based on density functional theory (DFT), we rationally designed transition metal triatomic cluster supported on graphdiyne (TM/GDY) as potential single-cluster catalysts for high-performance NORR.

Non-close-packed crystalline arrays of colloidal particles in an elastic matrix exhibit mechanochromism. However, small interparticle distances often limit the range of reversible color shifts and reduce reflectivity during a blueshift. A straightforward, reproducible strategy using matrix swelling to increase interparticle distance and improve mechanochromic performance is presented.

The scales of the gold-dust weevil are green because of three-dimensional diamond-type chitin-air photonic crystals with an average periodicity of about 430 nm and a chitin fill fraction of about 0.44. A single scale usually contains one to three crystallites with different lattice orientations.

TiO has broad prospects in reducing the safety risks posed by emerging pollutants in water environments. However, the high recombination rate of photogenerated carriers limits the activity and photon utilization efficiency of TiO. In this study, mesoporous TiO (m-TiO) and ultra-thin g-CN nanosheets were composited using a hydrothermal method, with the m-TiO tightly and uniformly wrapped by g-CN.
