Objectives: To systematically identify and examine the frequency of use of concepts contained in outcome variables across bipolar disorder (BD) studies using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) as a reference.
Methods: Original studies published between 2000 and 2006 were located on the MEDLINE and PsycINFO databases and selected according to predetermined criteria. Outcome variables were extracted, and concepts contained therein were linked to the ICF.
Results: A total of 109 final studies were included. The concepts contained in these studies were linked to 145 different ICF categories. ICF category b152, emotional functions, was the most frequently represented category, appearing in 94% of the publications, followed by b126, temperament and personality functions (73%). E110, products or substances for personal consumption, and e580, health services, systems, and policies, appeared in 68% of the studies.
Conclusions: The present systematic review reflects the research focus of the literature on BD in recent years. Most of the studies performed concentrate on body functions rather than activities and participation domains. Experimental studies are mostly pharmacological, reflecting the need to study nonpharmacological interventions. Furthermore, our study shows that outcome variables used in studies with persons with BD can, to a large extent, be mapped to the ICF.

Extracellular vesicles released by the protozoan parasite display immunomodulatory properties towards mammalian immune cells. In this study, we have evaluated the potential of extracellular vesicles derived from the non-pathogenic protozoan towards the development of a vaccine adjuvant. As a proof of concept, we expressed in a codon-optimized SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein fused to the secreted acid phosphatase signal peptide in the N-terminal and to a 6×-His stretch in the C-terminal.

This research aimed to produce a multifunctional bread by adding hydrothermally processed rice bran (RB), green tea extract (GTE), and rosemary extract (RE). In the first step, hydrothermal processing was used to reduce the amount of phytic acid in RB, which decreased by 55 %. Based on the acrylamide amount, texture profile analysis, and color parameters, 3 % RB was selected as the optimum concentration in the bread formulation.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries has been regarded as one of the most promising next-generation energy storage systems due to their high theoretical energy density. However, the practical application of Li-S batteries is still hindered by the unstable cathode-electrolyte interphase and the early passivation of charge product (Li2S), leading to poor cycling stability and low S utilization. Herein, we propose an electrolyte engineering strategy using highly solvating hexamethylphosphoramide (HMPA) as a co-solvent to elucidate the dissociation-precipitation chemistry of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs).

However, the correlation between other cellular properties of intestinal bacteria and disease has not been explored further, especially for features that are not directly driven by the host immune-system, e.g.

Background: This mixed methods study identified needed refinements to a telehealth-delivered cultural and linguistic adaptation of Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy for Chinese patients with advanced cancer (MCP-Ch) to enhance acceptability, comprehensibility, and implementation of the intervention in usual care settings, guided by the Ecological Validity Model (EVM) and the Practical, Robust Implementation and Sustainability Model (PRISM).
Methods: Fifteen purposively sampled mental health professionals who work with Chinese cancer patients completed surveys providing Likert-scale ratings on acceptability and comprehensibility of MCP-Ch content (guided by the EVM) and pre-implementation factors (guided by PRISM), followed by semi-structured interviews. Survey data were descriptively summarized and linked to qualitative interview data.
