The authors report on tuberculosis situation in the Czech Republic (CR) in 1989 and compare the data with 1988. The incidence of all cases of respiratory TB was 15.5 and that of bacteriologically confirmed cases 11.1/100,000. The mortality from TB was also low (1/100,000). Two-thirds of the patients were detected because of the patients' complaints. This passive case - finding was, however, inadequate in subjects with a poor health consciousness. Active screening was restricted to subjects with a high risk of TB (in contact with tuberculosis, with different diseases, with socio-economic factors, migrating subjects, non-cooperating subjects). In 1989 for the first time in the CR stagnation of the incidence of bacteriologically confirmed TB of the respiratory organs was recorded. The number of patients (5.7/100,000) with TB with a microscopically positive bacteriological finding in sputum was also the same. A slowing down of the hitherto recorded favourable trend of TB must be foreseen. It will be important to maintain the contemporary system of TB surveillance.

Background And Objectives: Gingivitis and periodontitis are common periodontal diseases that can significantly harm overall oral health, affecting the teeth and their supporting tissues, along with the surrounding anatomical structures, and if left untreated, leading to the total destruction of the alveolar bone and the connective tissues, tooth loss, and other more serious systemic health issues. Numerous studies have shown that propolis can help reduce gum inflammation, inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria, and promote tissue regeneration, but with varying degrees of success reported. For this reason, this comprehensive systematic review aims at finding out the truth concerning the efficacy of propolis mouthwashes in treating gingivitis and periodontitis, as its main objective.

The novel diiron amine complexes [FeCp(CO)(NHR')(μ-CO){μ-CN(Me)(Cy)}]CFSO [R' = H, 3; Cy, 4; CHCHNH, 5; CHCHNMe, 6; CHCH(4-CHOMe), 7; CHCH(4-CHOH), 8; Cp = η-CH, Cy = CH = cyclohexyl] were synthesized in 49-92 % yields from [FeCp(CO)(μ-CO){μ-CN(Me)(Cy)}]CFSO, 1a, using a straightforward two-step procedure. They were characterized by IR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, and the structure of 7 was confirmed through X-ray diffraction analysis. Complexes 3-8 and the acetonitrile adducts [FeCp(CO)(NCMe)(μ-CO){μ-CN(Me)(R)}]CFSO (R = Cy, 2a; Me, 2b; Xyl = 2,6-CHMe, 2c) were assessed for their water solubility, octanol-water partition coefficient and stability in physiological-like solutions.

Cold acclimation and vernalization represent the major evolutionary adaptive responses to ensure winter survival of temperate plants. Due to climate change, mild winters can paradoxically worsen plant winter survival due to cold deacclimation induced by warm periods during winter. It seems that the ability of cold reacclimation in overwintering Triticeae cereals is limited, especially in vernalized plants.
