The interaction between numbers and action-related processes is currently one of the most investigated topics in numerical cognition. The present study contributes to this line of research by investigating, for the first time, the effects of number on an overlearned complex motor plan that does not require explicit lateralised movements or strict spatial constrains: spontaneous handwriting. In particular, we investigated whether the spatial mapping of numbers interferes with the motor planning involved in writing. To this aim, participants' spontaneous handwriting of single digits (Exp. 1) and letters (Exp. 2) was recorded with a digitising tablet. We show that the writing of numbers is characterised by a spatial dislocation of the digits as a function of their magnitude, i.e., small numbers were written leftwards relative to large numbers. In contrast, the writing of letters showed a null or marginal effect with respect to their dislocation on the writing area. These findings show that the automatic mapping of numbers into space interacts with action planning by modulating specific motor parameters in spontaneous handwriting.

Despite the persistent difficulties of people with dyslexia concerning writing, few studies examine the impact of dyslexia on the dynamic aspects of written text production. Our objective is to examine the written productions of students with dyslexia (N = 21), compared with matched control students (N = 22), taking into consideration online indicators. Biscriptuality is the ability to write in two different scripts. Achieving handwriting expertise in a single script demands years of intensive practice, and these demands are even stronger when two scripts must be mastered. Biscriptuality could thus impact the cognitive and motor skills underlying graphomotor control.

Handwriting is a complex activity including motor planning and visuomotor integration and referring to some brain areas identified as "writing centers." Although temporal features of handwriting are as important as spatial ones, to our knowledge, there is no evidence of the description of specific brain areas associated with handwriting tempo. People with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) show handwriting impairments that are mainly referred to as the temporal features of the task.

Background: Approximately 7-10% of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients carry a GBA (Glucocerebrosidase) mutation (GBA-PD patients), which may influence the disease's clinical course.
Objectives: This study aimed to explore the patient experience of GBA-PD and identify the most important symptoms and impacts to inform clinical trial measurement strategies.
Methods: Twenty PD patients (n = 15 GBA-PD; n = 5 idiopathic-PD) participated in qualitative interviews which explored concepts spontaneously reported or identified through a literature review.
