Ca and Mg are essential nutrients, and deficiency can cause serious health problems. Thus, lack of Ca and Mg can lead to osteoporosis, with incidence rising both in absolute and age-specific terms, while Mg deficiency is associated with type II diabetes. Prevention via vitamin D or estrogen is controversial, and the bioavailability of Ca and Mg from supplements is significantly lower than that from milk products.

Rickets in children usually present with skeletal manifestations. However, they can also rarely present with extraskeletal manifestations, one of them being respiratory insufficiency. We present an unusual case of a girl in early childhood with respiratory insufficiency, which turned out to be due to the underlying vitamin D-dependent rickets (VDDR).

Background And Aims: This study investigates the global impact of ambient ultraviolet radiation (UVR) on dementia incidence, addressing its controversial association with dementia risk. UVR, through both vitamin D-dependent and independent mechanisms, influences physiological processes essential for brain health, such as reducing neuroinflammation, improving sleep regulation, and enhancing neuroplasticity. This study aims to clarify the relationship between UVR and dementia incidence and evaluate its role in public health strategies for dementia prevention.

Vitamin D-dependent rickets type 2A (VDDR2A) is a rare cause of infantile-onset alopecia, characterized by severe hypotrichosis, small cutaneous cysts, early-onset treatment-resistant rickets, and hypocalcemia. Alopecia, often starting a few weeks to months after birth, may be the presenting feature. We present three cases of VDDR2A with genetic variants in the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene, their clinical features and biochemical parameters.
