For exposure of the cerebello-pontine angle by an enlarged middle-fossa approach without destruction of the inner ear, bone removal anterior and posterior to the internal auditory meatus (c.a.i.) can be performed with orientation at landmarks. Based on the experience of more than 300 interventions and documented by a series of 10 temporal bone micro-dissections, rules have been established for reliable localization of the following structures: geniculate ganglion, Fallopian canal, vertical crest at the fundus of the c.a.i., basal coil of the cochlea, and ampulla of the superior semicircular canal. The surgical technique has enabled the authors to remove acoustic neurinomas of up to 3.5 cm with preservation of hearing in 51%.

To describe the distribution of jugular bulb position and pneumatization of posterior lip of internal auditory meatus (IAM) in patients with vestibular schwannoma (VS). This retrospective study included 43 patients who had a thin slice (< 2 mm) CT temporal bone for preoperative planning of retrosigmoid approach for excision of VS between March 2011 and March 2021. On computed tomography (CT), high riding jugular bulb was defined by its relationship to IAM and correlated with type of jugular bulb according to Manjila et al.

Previous studies have reported visual motion aftereffects (MAEs) following prolonged exposure to auditory stimuli depicting motion, such as ascending or descending musical scales. The role of attention in modulating these cross-modal MAEs, however, remains unclear. The present study manipulated the level of attention directed to musical scales depicting motion and assessed subsequent changes in MAE strength.

How are arbitrary sequences of verbal information retained and manipulated in working memory? Increasing evidence suggests that serial order in verbal WM is spatially coded and that spatial attention is involved in access and retrieval. Based on the idea that brain areas controlling spatial attention are also involved in oculomotor control, we used eye tracking to reveal how the spatial structure of serial order information is accessed in verbal working memory. In two experiments, participants memorized a sequence of auditory words in the correct order.

Background And Purpose: Prior investigations have noted the presence of peritumoral hyperintense signal (a "halo") around vestibular schwannomas on postcontrast 3D T2 FLAIR images. This study evaluated this phenomenon in a cohort of patients undergoing stereotactic radiosurgery.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective review was completed of consecutive patients with presumed vestibular schwannomas undergoing stereotactic radiosurgery.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in adults, constituting a significant portion of global incidence rates. DLBCL can be further classified via genetic expression profiling into molecular subsets consisting of not-otherwise specified (NOS) subset being the most prevalent, germinal center B-cell-like (GCB) subset, and activated B-cell-like (ABC) subset. The ABC subset, marked by abnormal NF-κB signaling, is associated with poorer outcomes.
