During the 2001-2003 time period 17 patients with neck lateral cysts were subjected to surgery at the Department of Otolaryngology, Regional Hospital in Tarnów. Collected cysts contents were analyzed with respect to bacterial infection and neutrophil presence as a measure of ongoing local inflammation. All samples were shown being sterile and half of them contained large numbers of neutrophils in advanced apoptosis. The apparent lack of efficient clearance of apoptotic neutrophils may lead to maintenance of the local inflammatory reaction in the neck cysts.

Myeloid cell leukemia 1 (MCL-1) is a member of the B-cell lymphoma 2 protein family and has anti-apoptotic functions. Deregulation of MCL-1 has been reported in several cancers, including lung and breast cancer. In the present study, the association of MCL-1 expression with molecular features in colorectal cancer (CRC) has been highlighted.

Diabetes exacerbates the occurrence and severity of periodontitis, the pathogenesis of diabetic periodontitis (DPD) is influenced by the delayed resolution of inflammation. Eldecalcitol (ED-71) has shown promise in preventing bone loss in DPD. We herein aimed to investigate the role of ED-71 in the inflammatory regression phase of DPD and elucidate the underlying mechanisms.

A dysregulated proinflammatory microenvironment is considered one of the reasons why current therapies of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) do not secure disease control. Therefore, the development of BCR-ABL1-independent therapies is encouraged. Renalase (RNLS) is a multifunctional protein that exhibits both enzymatic and non-enzymatic cytokine-like properties, along with potent anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects.

The gastrointestinal tract can be deranged by ailments including sepsis, trauma and haemorrhage. Ischaemic injury provokes a common constellation of microscopic and macroscopic changes that, together with the paradoxical exacerbation of cellular dysfunction and death following restoration of blood flow, are collectively known as ischaemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). Although much of the gastrointestinal tract is normally hypoxemic, intestinal IRI results when there is inadequate oxygen availability due to poor supply (pathological hypoxia) or abnormal tissue oxygen use and metabolism (dysoxia).

With the widespread application of pesticides, water pollution problems are becoming more and more serious, which is very likely to cause harm to fish. Lower vertebrates, including fish, have the ability to repair damaged tissues. The spread of pesticides in the water may affect their regeneration process after injury, leading to their death, thereby affecting the survival rate of the population.
