In order to investigate the action point of lignin-carbohydrate complex (Fr4) from Lentinus edodes mycelia extract, DNA microarray analysis was performed, using mouse macrophage-like J774.1 cells. Among seven lignin-carbohydrate complex fractions, Fr4 showed the highest stimulatory activity of tumor necrosis factor production by mouse macrophage-like J774.1 cells, as well as its previously reported anti-HIV activity. Fr4 is composed of lignin precursors such as vanillic acid, syringic acid, p-coumaric acid and ferulic acid, with trace amounts of flavonoids and tannins, and negligible amount of lipopolysaccharides (LPS), confirming the authenticity of Fr4 as a lignin. DNA microarray analysis suggested that Fr4 may affect immune response-related gene expression; however, it may not affect the expression of as many genes as LPS does.

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally, and studies have shown that genetic variants play a significant role in its development. A variety of germline and somatic mutations are associated with cervical cancer. However, genomic data derived from these mutations have not been extensively utilized for the development of repurposed drugs for cervical cancer.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFGenome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified genetic variants robustly associated with asthma. A potential near-term clinical application is to calculate polygenic risk score (PRS) to improve disease risk prediction. The value of PRS, as part of numerous multi-source variables used to define asthma, remains unclear.

Background: The prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and asthma is rising, yet evidence regarding the relationship between T2D and asthma, particularly in the context of genetic predispositions, remains limited.
Methods: This study utilized data from the UK Biobank longitudinal cohort, involving 388,775 participants. A polygenic risk score (PRS) for asthma was derived from genome-wide association studies summary.

Background: Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience a wide array of neurological, psychiatric and medical comorbidities, yet little attention has been given to the potential link between ASD and migraine, one of the most prevalent neurological disorders worldwide. This study aimed to investigate whether a genetic predisposition for ASD is linked to migraine and its major subtypes, with and without aura. Additionally, potential moderator and mediators of the association between ASD and migraine were explored.

Background: Past studies have indicated links between specific inflammatory proteins in the bloodstream and temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). Nonetheless, there remains the need for further solid research pinpointing the exact causes behind these associations. This Mendelian randomization (MR) study aims to examine the association between 91 circulating inflammatory proteins and TMDs.
