Published: March 2010

Objective: To analyze the chemical constituents of the essential oil from Chimonanthus zhejiangensis.

Methods: Steam distillation was employed to extract volatile compounds of essential oil from Chimonanthus zhejiangensis. Volatile compounds of essential oil were isolated and identified by capillary GC-MS-DS.

Results: 37 components were separated and 33 components were successfully identified.

Conclusion: The main components were 1,4-Cineole (46.20%), 1,5,9-Undecatriene, 2,6, 10-trimethyl-, (Z)-(9.71%), Cyclohexane, 3,4-bis (1-methylethenyl) -1, 1-dimethyl-(7.42%), Trioctylamine (6.44%), alpha-Terpinyl propionate (4.01%), alpha-Pinene (3.92%).

The endonuclease activity of MCPIP1 controls the neoplastic transformation of epithelial cells via the c-Met/CD44 axis.

Department of General Biochemistry, Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland.

The RNase activity of MCPIP1 is essential for regulating cellular homeostasis, proliferation, and tumorigenesis. Our study elucidates the effects of downregulation of MCPIP1 expression and an RNase-inactivating mutation (D141N) on normal epithelial kidney cells, indicating that MCPIP1 expression is a key factor that suppresses neoplastic transformation. We observed that either expression downregulation or mutation of MCPIP1 significantly increased its clonogenicity and altered the expression of cancer stem cell (CSC) markers and factors involved in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT).

This work leverages the additive antipathogenic effects of natural extracts/essential oils (EOs) and probiotics for the treatment of acne vulgaris associated with () and eczema complicated by secondary infections with (). Six probiotic strains and various extracts/EOs were evaluated in a large screening to evaluate their potential against both pathogens. PCB003 was able to inhibit the growth of both pathogens.

Design and theoretical calculation of chitosan derivatives: Amphiphilic chitosan micelles loaded with Chinese fir essential oil.

Guangxi Key Laboratory of Chemistry and Engineering of Forest Products, Guangxi Collaborative Innovation Center for Chemistry and Engineering of Forest Products, Guangxi Minzu University, Nanning 530006, Guangxi, China.

The unique structure of chitosan-based micelles can be loaded with essential oil, so it is significant to study the modification of chitosan and the interactions between chitosan and essential oil, while molecular dynamics (MD) simulation and density functional theory (DFT) provide a solution. In this study, three kinds of amphiphilic chitosan derivatives (CSDs) were constructed by grafting of different hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups. Amphiphilic chitosan micelles loaded with Chinese fir essential oil (CFEO) were prepared by self-assembly.

With rising concerns about antibiotic resistance and its consequences on public health, the identification of safe and effective alternatives to antibiotics in the poultry industry has become increasingly critical. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of supplementing drinking water with apple vinegar and essential oils, compared to an antibiotic growth promoter, on the growth performance, serum lipid profile, antioxidant status, intestinal morphology, and gastrointestinal microflora population of broiler chickens. A total of 240 one-day-old male broiler chickens were randomly assigned to four treatments, each consisting of six replicate pens with ten birds per pen.
