As many as 50 lactating mothers and their children on breast feeding were placed under observation. A study was made of risk factors and criteria for predicting the development of food allergy in children. The risk group was distinguished on the basis of the presence in children of hereditary predisposition and the IgE level in the funic blood if it exceeded 0.3 kU/l. In breast-fed children with allergic manifestations, the levels of IgE in the funic blood were significantly increased, namely up to 0.61 +/- 0.19 kU/1 (0.15 +/- 0.03 in healthy children of the control group); in coprofiltrates, the IgE level was up to 0.59 +/- 0.24 kU/l (0.09 +/- 0.03 in controls). In the funic blood of allergic children, antibodies against ovalbumin of the chicken egg were mostly demonstrable. In the milk of mothers having breast-fed allergic children, the content of antigenic ovalbumin was increased up to 38 +/- 14 ng/ml (16 +/- 2 ng/ml in controls).

September 2021

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA, United States; Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, United States.

Objective: To describe effectiveness of funic potassium chloride (KCl) injection for fetal demise during intact dilation and evacuation (D&E).

Study Design: We abstracted medical records of patients who underwent standard or intact D&E to identify those who had intact D&E from 20 weeks 0 days through 23 weeks 6 days from February 2016 to August 2017 at one academic center. We extracted data on time to asystole following KCl injection, as well as incidents including hemorrhage, infection, uterine perforation, and unplanned admissions for up to 6 months following each procedure.

Background: Previous evidence showed that use of phenylephrine was associated with higher umbilical artery pH (UA pH) than ephedrine after elective cesarean delivery (CD). However, the best choice of vasopressor and its effect on funic gases in cases of acute fetal compromise require additional studies.

Methods: Ninety parturients showing acute fetal compromise during intrapartum period and taken up for CD (category II) under spinal anesthesia were randomized to receive prophylactic infusion of ephedrine 2.

Thyroid hormone levels in cord blood of infants with acidemia at birth.

Objective: To study the funic thyroid hormone levels in cases were fetal distress during labor resulted in acidemia at birth.

Material And Methods: Arterial and venous levels of TSH, total T4, free T4 and total T3 obtained from cord blood at birth of twelve acidemic fetuses were compared with normal controls.

Results: Acidemic fetuses had a significanly higher TSH levels than controls (16.

By means of dopplerometry there were examined the blood flows in uterine arteries, funic arteries, internal carotid arteries of fetuses of 34 women in III trimester of a pregnancy with a threat of a premature birth. Cerebral blood flow in newborns was estimated on the 1-st and the 5-th days of life in anterior and middle cerebral arteries. Control group included 20 women with the physiologic pregnancies and their 20 newborns.

To reveal the hemodynamic effect of plasma DNA, the authors measured the concentrations of plasma DNA, the length of its molecular fragments, and hemodynamic resistance/Toms effect. The Toms effect was detected in all blood samples from 10 healthy donors and 39 patients without acute stroke caused by atherosclerosis of the head great arteries with and without arterial hypertension. There was a clear inverse relationships between the plasma concentrations of DNA which had only long-molecular fragments in healthy persons and the hemodynamic resistance of its blood flow samples.
