A cysteine-terminated C(RGD)(4) peptide film was fabricated on a gold electrode for improving the attachment of cells. The electrochemical signals of cyclic voltammogram from cells on a C(RGD)(4) deposited electrode was enhanced from 0.27 to 0.49 μA compared to a bare electrode. The developed cell-based sensor determined the effect of bisphenol-A (BPA) and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DTT) on the viability of HEK-293 cells by detecting decrease of reduction peaks (1.12-0.15 μA for BPA and 0.81-0.29 μA for DDT) after the treatment of environmental chemicals. This developed system can be a powerful tool for the monitoring of environmental toxicants.

Photonic crystals (PC) play a key role in optical field modulation due to their unique photonic band gaps (PBGs). Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) prepared by pulse anodization is a promising candidate for PC devices. In this research, an AAO-based PC with multi-band was fabricated on a single-slice & single-material film, which exhibits multi-band responses in the visible-to-near-infrared (vis-NIR) region.

Integrating liquid metal (LM) with wood fibers for flexible paper electronics is intriguing yet extremely challenging due to poor mechanical performance. Here, we disclose a hemicellulose trapping strategy to achieve exceptional ultrastrong and tough LM-based paper electronics. Holocellulose nanofibrils (HCNFs) with hemicellulose retention of approximately 20 % are found to effectively entrap nanoscale LM within the fibril network, analogous to spider silk capturing small water droplets.

Flexibility has been a key selling point in the development of carbon-based electronics and sensors with the promise of further development into wearable devices. Semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) lend themselves well to applications requiring flexibility while achieving high-performance. Our previous work has demonstrated a tri-layer polymer dielectric composed of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), poly(vinyl alcohol) with cellulose nanocrystals (PVAc), and toluene diisocyanate-terminated poly(caprolactone) (TPCL), yielding an environmentally benign and solution-processable n-type thin-film transistor (TFT).

Solid-state nanopores exhibit dynamically variable sizes influenced by buffer conditions and applied electric field. While dynamical pore behavior can complicate biomolecular sensing, it also offers opportunities for controlled, modification of pore size post-fabrication. In order to optimally harness solid-state pore dynamics for controlled growth, there is a need to systematically quantify pore growth dynamics and ideally develop quantitative models to describe pore growth.

Solar-driven interfacial evaporation is regarded as a green and sustainable strategy to address the global freshwater crisis. Nevertheless, it remains challenging to develop a photothermal structure with highly efficient evaporation under omnidirectional illumination. Herein, a three-dimensional multiscale pyramidal array photothermal structure (PAPS) was developed from the inspiration of durian skin.
