The two-dimensional paper network (2DPN) is a versatile new microfluidic format for performing complex chemical processes. For chemical detection, for example, 2DPNs have the potential to exceed the capabilities and performance of existing paper-based lateral flow devices at a comparable cost and ease of use. To design such 2DPNs, it is necessary to predict 2D flow patterns and velocities within them, but because of the scattering of the paper matrix, conventional particle imaging velocimetry is not practical. In this note, we demonstrate two methods for visualization of flow in 2DPNs that are inexpensive, easy to implement, and quantifiable.

Background: The primary endpoint in diabetes-related foot ulcer (DFU) trials is often time to healing, defined as complete re-epithelialisation with absence of drainage, requiring clinical expert assessment as the gold standard. Central blinded photograph review for confirmation of healing is increasingly being undertaken for internal validity. The Diabetic Foot Ulcer Photography study aims to determine the agreement between blinded independent review panel members for assessing ulcer healing status in patients with DFUs.

Aims: Glucosamine, a widely used dietary supplement, has been linked to potential cardiovascular risks, including atrial fibrillation (AF). This study aimed to investigate the effects of long-term glucosamine supplementation on AF susceptibility and the underlying mechanisms.
Materials And Methods: C57BL/6 J mice were treated with low-dose (15 mg/kg/day) or high-dose (250 mg/kg/day) glucosamine via drinking water for 6 weeks.

Microbe-Assisted Phytoremediation (MAP) is an eco-friendly method for remediating soil contaminated with heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd) and chromium (Cr). This study demonstrates the potential of a king grass-Serratia marcescens strain S27 (KS) co-symbiotic system to enhance heavy metal remediation. The KS symbiosis increased the biomass of king grass by 48 % and enhanced the accumulation of Cd and Cr in the whole plant by 2.

Developing a two-dimensional (2D) ultrathin metal-organic framework plays a significant role in energy conversion and storage systems. This work introduced a facile strategy for engineering ultrathin NiMn-MOF nanosheets on Ni foam (NF) via in situ conversion from NiMn-layered double hydroxide (LDH). The as-synthesized LDH-derived NiMn-MOF (LDH-D NiMn-MOF) nanosheet exhibited an overpotential of 350 mV to drive a current density of 100 mA cm during oxygen evolution reaction (OER) owing to its better redox activity, hierarchical architecture, and intercalating ability.

ConspectusThe emergence of two-dimensional (2D) materials, such as graphene, transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), has sparked significant interest due to their unique physicochemical, optical, electrical, and mechanical properties. Furthermore, their atomically thin nature enables mechanical flexibility, high sensitivity, and simple integration onto flexible substrates, such as paper and plastic. The surface chemistry of a nanomaterial determines many of its properties, such as its chemical and catalytic activity.
