Various three-dimensional structures have been created on a nanometer scale using the self-assembly of DNA molecules. However, ordinary DNA structures breakdown readily because of their flexibility. In addition, it is difficult to control them by inputs from environments. Here, we construct robust and photocontrollable DNA capsules using azobenzenes. This provides a method to construct DNA structures that can survive higher temperatures and can be controlled with ultraviolet irradiation.

In-situ tumor vaccination remains challenging due to difficulties in the exposure and presentation of tumor-associated neoantigens (TANs). In view of the central role of lipid metabolism in cell fate determination and tumor-immune cell communication, here we report a photo-controlled lipid metabolism nanoregulator (PLMN) to achieve robust in-situ adjuvant-free vaccination, which is constructed through hierarchically integrating photothermal-inducible arachidonate 15-lipoxygenase (ALOX15)-expressing plasmids, cypate and FIN56 into cationic liposomes. Near-infrared light (NIR) stimulation triggers on-demand ALOX15 editing and causes excessive accumulation of downstream pro-ferroptosis lipid metabolites.

Material photocontrol has gained importance in process engineering and biomedical applications. However, highly photoreactive materials are intrinsically unstable to light, which limits their continuous use in lit environments owing to their gradual deterioration. Herein, synergistically photocontrollable materials in the presence of acid are developed to overcome the conventional trade-off between their photoreactivity and photostability.

Proper formulation of systems containing plasmonic and photochromic units, such as gold nanoparticles and azobenzene derivatives, yields materials and interfaces with synergic functionalities. Moreover, gold nanoparticles are known to accelerate the Z-E isomerization of azobenzene molecules in the dark. However, very little is known about the light-driven, plasmon-assisted Z-E isomerization of azobenzene compounds.

In this paper, we innovatively stack multiple resonant units of photoconductive silicon to design an ultra-broadband metamaterial absorber. By manipulating the conductivity of the silicon with a pump beam, adjustments are made to the amplitude of the wide absorption spectrum spanning 6.6 THz, enabling functional switching from total reflection to near-perfect ultra-broadband absorption.
