Background: The declaration of mpox as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern highlights the need for interventions to interrupt virus transmission, including transmission via fabrics. Current World Health Organization guidance on clothes washing is based on a general consensus of virus inactivation; however, there is uncertainty about the efficacy of laundry detergents and disinfectants or the reduction of risk achieved by washing clothes for monkeypox virus (MPXV) specifically.
Methods: This study investigates the efficacy of manual washing for inactivating MPXV from clothes.

Screening and quantification of emerging contaminants in water is of enormous relevance due to its scarcity and harmful effects on aquatic life and human health. We present a simple and cost-effective electrochemical cell for determination of the antidepressant venlafaxine, an emerging contaminant included in the EU Watch list 2022. The cell consists of pencil leads used as electrodes and a microcentrifuge tube.

Uniquely, active fluidic force is exerted on AuNPs in a microcentrifuge tube, through engineered centrifugation and vortex agitation, to accelerate signal transduction from biochemical protein binding to physical AuNP aggregation and precipitation and finally to electronic signals in a customized, stabilized circuitry. The limits of detection are found <80 aM (12 fg/mL) and ∼700 aM (105 fg/mL) to detect antibodies in human pooled serum and 20% diluted whole blood, and <900 aM (45 fg/mL) and 4.

The biomimetic enzyme cascade system plays a key role in biosensing as a sophisticated signal transduction and amplification strategy. However, constructing a regulated enzyme cascade sensing system remains challenging due to the mismatch of multiple enzyme activities and poor stability. Herein, we design an efficient dual-enhanced enzyme cascade hybrid system (UFD-DEC) containing DNA-controlled nanozymes (Fe-cdDNA) and enzyme (urease) via combining the electrostatic contact effect with the hydrogel-directed confinement effect.
