LEOPARD syndrome (LS) is a rare hereditary disorder in Asian countries. This syndrome consists of multiple systemic abnormalities. In particular, characteristic cardiovascular effects in LS may include variable clinical manifestations from benign to life-threatening courses. The cardiac effects of this syndrome consist of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), pulmonary stenosis (PS), coronary artery dilatation and electrocardiogram(ECG) abnormalities. Since there are few LS patients who have undergone a complete cardiovascular evaluation, the nature and clinical prognosis of cardiovascular abnormalities in this syndrome remain uncertain. Also, there have been few reports on therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular abnormalities in LS. Here we describe a case of LS who presented with multiple cardiovascular problems and underwent successful surgical and medical treatment.

Objective: Methadone may cause detrimental side effects such as corrected QT (QTc) prolongation. However, methadone may be desirable in patients with advanced cancer and those with heart disease who have intractable pain. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of initiating methadone for cancer pain in patients at high risk of methadone-induced QTc prolongation.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of scoliosis and congenital heart disease (CHD) in the same area and to explore the relationship between them according to a joint school screening.
Methods: All students aged 6-15 years in 20 schools in Jinghong City, Yunnan Province, China was screened for scoliosis and CHD. Scoliosis screening completed through the Adam's forward bending test with scoliometer measurement, and CHD screening completed through auscultation combined with portable echocardiography (ECHO).

Obesity is a highly prevalent chronic multisystem disease associated with shortened life expectancy due to a number of adverse health outcomes. Epidemiological data link body weight and parameters of central fat distribution to an increasing risk for type 2 diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver diseases, cardiovascular diseases including myocardial infarction, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, stroke, obstructive sleep apnoea, osteoarthritis, mental disorders and some types of cancer. However, the individual risk to develop cardiometabolic and other obesity-related diseases cannot entirely be explained by increased fat mass.

Infective endocarditis remains a deadly disease with a significant mortality rate. While ventricular septal defects (VSDs) have been linked to an increased risk of infective endocarditis, cases of acquired VSDs resulting from infective endocarditis are not well-documented in the literature. Our report highlights a rare case of acquired VSD that resulted directly from aortic valve endocarditis, treated with successful repair and placement of permanent pacemaker.
