Approximately 15% of men with newly diagnosed cancer are younger than 55 years, and about 26% of them are younger than 20 years. However the most common cause of fertility disorders is oncological treatment itself, the oncological diseases, changes in anatomy, and primary or secondary hormonal insufficiency are also significant factors. The chemotherapy, radiation, or their combination reduce sperm count, impair sperm motility and cause disorders in morphology and DNA integrity. Prognosis of sperm production recovery depends on the type of cancer, stage of the disease, patient age, drug treatment, treatment route and dosage, and pre-treatment male fertility.

Paediatric-to-adult transition in type 1 diabetes: A two-centre experience of a structured program, 2014 to 2022.

Diabetes Obes Metab

January 2025

Endocrinologie, Diabétologie Et Gynécologie Pédiatrique, Hopital Necker-Enfants Malades, Université Paris Cité, AP-HP centre, Paris, France.

Background: Transition from paediatric to adult healthcare is a turning point for patients with Type 1 diabetes (T1D). A gradual coordinated process connecting paediatric and adult healthcare providers may improve adherence to adult follow-up.

Aims: To describe a transition process developed jointly by paediatric and adult diabetology units and compare patients progressing or not to follow-up in adult care setting.

This mixed-methods study investigated the role of medicinal cannabis use among younger adults who live in rural communities and experience high levels of cumulative social disadvantage (CSD). Results are based on cross-sectional surveys and online interviews with 153 younger adults (18-35-years old) in rural California. We assessed participants' levels of CSD (high, medium, and low) and examined associations with perceived general physical and mental health and with medicinal use of cannabis (MUC).

Introduction: Increasing age is associated with an increased incidence of necrotising fasciitis. In this study, we aimed to compare the clinical presentation, investigations, microbiology and clinical outcome in elderly (age ≥60 years) and nonelderly (age <60 years) patients with extremity necrotising fasciitis.

Methods: A retrospective review of patients with extremity necrotising fasciitis who were surgically treated between January 2005 and December 2021 was conducted.

Impact analysis of infant antibiotic exposure on the burden of asthma: a simulation modeling study.

Front Allergy

December 2024

Respiratory Evaluation Sciences Program, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Background: Infant antibiotic use is associated with increased risk of asthma. We examined the population impact of antibiotic exposure in the first year of life on the burden of pediatric asthma in British Columbia, Canada, using simulation modeling.

Methods: We performed a Bayesian meta-analysis of empirical studies to construct dose-response equations between antibiotic exposure in the first year of life and pediatric (<19 years of age) asthma.

Introduction Incorporation of mammographic density to breast cancer risk models could improve risk stratification to tailor screening and prevention strategies according to risk. Robust evaluation of the value of adding mammographic density to models with comprehensive information on questionnaire-based risk factors and polygenic risk score is needed to determine its effectiveness in improving risk stratification of such models. Methods We used the Individualized Coherent Absolute Risk Estimator (iCARE) tool for risk model building and validation to incorporate density to a previously validated literature-based model with questionnaire-based risk factors and a 313-variant polygenic risk score (PRS).
