GABAergic neurons in basal forebrain (BF) nuclei project densely to all layers of the mouse main olfactory bulb (OB), the first relay in odor information processing. However, BF projection neurons are diverse and the contribution of each subtype to odor information processing is not known. In the present study, we used retrograde and anterograde tracing methods together with whole-brain light-sheet analyses, patch-clamp recordings coupled with optogenetic and chemogenetic approaches during spontaneous odor discrimination, and go/no-go odor discrimination/learning tests to characterize the synaptic targets in the OB of BF calretinin-expressing (CR+) GABAergic cells and to reveal their functional implications.

Socioeconomic status (SES) is associated with well-being outcomes across studies; however, there is wide variation in its measurement, particularly in adolescence. One key difference in measures of SES concerns whether participants relay objective information-for example, years of education, household income-or subjective perceptions of socioeconomic status, either with or without reference to others or society. Although parents are often considered the best source of SES information-especially objective SES-within families, interviewing parents within the context of adolescent research is costly, time-consuming, and not always feasible.

Mesoscale heterogeneity is a critical determinant for spiral pattern formation in developing social amoeba.

Heterogeneity is a critical determinant for multicellular pattern formation. Although the importance of microscale and macroscale heterogeneity at the single-cell and whole-system levels, respectively, has been well accepted, the presence and functions of mesoscale heterogeneity, such as cell clusters with distinct properties, have been poorly recognized. We investigated the biological importance of mesoscale heterogeneity in signal-relaying abilities (excitability) in the self-organization of spiral waves of intercellular communications by studying the self-organized pattern formation in a population of Dictyostelium discoideum cells, a classical signal-relaying system model.

Dirhodium-Palladium Dual-Catalyzed [1 + 1 + 3] Annulation to Heterocycles Using Primary Amines or HO as the Heteroatom Sources.

J Am Chem Soc

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Organometallic Chemistry and Shanghai Hongkong Joint Laboratory in Chemical Synthesis, Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 345 Lingling Road, Shanghai 200032, China.

The ever-increasing demand in chemical biology and medicinal research requires the development of new synthetic methods for the rapid construction of libraries of heterocycles from simple raw materials. In this context, the utilization of primary amines or HO as the simple - or -sources in the assembly of a heterocyclic ring skeleton is highly desirable from the viewpoint of atom- and step-economy. Herein, we describe a highly efficient three-component reaction of diazo, allylic diacetates, and commercially available anilines (or HO) to access structurally diverse pyrrolidine and tetrahydrofuran derivatives.

Unmanned-Aerial-Vehicle-Assisted Secure Free Space Optical Transmission in Internet of Things: Intelligent Strategy for Optimal Fairness.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

Qualcomm Communication Technologies (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Shanghai 201208, China.

In this article, we consider an UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle)-assisted free space optical (FSO) secure communication network. Since FSO signal is impossible to detect by eavesdroppers without proper beam alignment and security authentication, a BS employs FSO technique to transfer information to multiple authenticated sensors, to improve the transmission security and reliability with the help of an UAV relay with decode and forward (DF) mode. All the sensors need to first send information to the UAV to obtain security authentication, and then the UAV forwards corresponding information to them.
