Microlenses are widely studied in two main areas: fabrication and characterization. Nowadays, characterization draws more attention because it is difficult to apply test techniques to microlenses that are used for conventional optical systems. Especially, small microlenses on a substrate are difficult to characterize because their back focus often stays in the substrate. Here we propose immersion high-resolution interference microscopy to characterize small-size microlenses at three visible wavelengths. Test results for 20-mum-diameter microlenses are presented and discussed. We cover not only standard characterizations like wavefront investigations but also experiments of actual focus properties and chromatic behaviors.

Background: Recent studies suggest genome-wide-association-studies (GWAS) loci confer their effects on microglia in late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) brains. Relatively fewer studies have investigated the effects of other genome-wide significant loci (p<5e) using human neurons.
Method: GWAS itself cannot directly identify causal variant-(effector)gene-pairs as GWAS only reports the sentinel variant at a given locus.

Fiber reinforced polymer composites (FRPs) are essential for various industrial fields, but wrinkles inside will greatly reduce their mechanical properties. Full-matrix capture (FMC) is a popular data structure for ultrasonic phased array imaging in composites. However, such structure may lead to data redundancy and noise interference.

17-Estradiol (E2) is a natural steroidal estrogen essential for a variety of physiological functions in organisms. However, external E2, which is renowned for its potent biological effects, is also considered to be an endocrine-disrupting compound (EDC) capable of disturbing the normal operation of the endocrine system, even at nanogram-per-liter (ng/L) concentrations. Studies have revealed that medical and livestock wastewater can be contaminated with E2, which poses potential risks to human health.

Raman scattering can provide information on molecular fingerprints, which have been widely applied in various fields of material science and nanobiotechnology. Notably, low interference with water molecules in obtaining the Raman spectra between 500 and 2000 cm made it a powerful spectroscopic tool in biology, such as imaging and signaling for a living cell. To be a robust tool for cell biology, the performance of obtaining molecular-specific information with high sensitivity, high resolution in real time, and without inducing cell damage is strongly required.

Accurate determination of spectral parameters for carbon monoxide (CO) transitions is crucial for the development of laser absorption spectroscopy-based CO sensors. This study reports the measurement of line strengths, self-broadening coefficients, and their temperature-dependent exponents for three transitions in the first overtone band near 2.3 μm.
