Oculoauriculovertebral spectrum (OAVS) is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous congenital disorder. We performed high density oligonucleotide array-CGH on 86 OAVS patients and identified in 11 patients 12 novel genomic rearrangements (4 deletions and 8 duplications) ranging in size from 2.7 kb to 2.3 Mb. We discuss the potential pathogenic role of these chromosomal aberrations, and describe new candidate regions for OAVS.

Purpose: To evaluate the growth, management, and outcomes of epibulbar dermolipomas over a 5-year follow-up period.

Methods: This was a retrospective chart review of epibulbar dermolipoma patients with a minimum follow-up of 5 years, which analyzed the changes in size, refractive errors (spherical equivalent), best-corrected visual acuity, histology, and surgical outcomes.

Results: A total of 61 eyes of 53 patients (32 females) with an average presenting age of 4.

Background: Goldenhar syndrome is a clinically heterogeneous disorder defined by a rare combination of congenital anomalies-an eye abnormality, in addition to two of the following three: ear anomalies, mandibular malformations, and vertebral defects. Notably, children with Goldenhar syndrome present with a high incidence of cervical spine malformations.

Clinical Case: In this report, we present an unusual case of a 15-year-old child with Goldenhar syndrome, who additionally presents with some clinical features of VACTERL syndrome.

Purpose: In our practice, testing hypo-fertile patients for circulating homocysteine (Hcy) and the two principal MTHFR SNPs (677C > T and 1298A > C) has been routine for the past 7 years. Couples carrying a genetic background known to be associated with the disease were proposed treatment regimens consisting of 5-methyl tetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) together with nutritional support of the one-carbon cycle (1-CC). Some patients preferred to continue with folic acid (FA) as prescribed by their referring gynecologist/obstetrician: this gave us the opportunity to compare outcomes between the two groups of patients.

A Curious Case of Multimorbidity in a Patient With Goldenhar Syndrome Presenting With Vomiting.

October 2024

Internal Medicine, Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine, Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, USA.

Goldenhar syndrome, also known as oculo-auriculo-vertebral dysplasia or hemifacial microsomia, is a rare congenital anomaly involving the first and second branchial arches. In this case report, we present a distinctive instance of a 43-year-old male with Goldenhar syndrome who presented with nausea and recurrent bilious vomiting. Initial diagnostic imaging raised concerns about pancreatitis, leading to a comprehensive evaluation that revealed gallstone pancreatitis as the cause of his symptoms.
