We demonstrate a reconfigurable optical filter implemented using a phase-only two-dimensional liquid-crystal-on-silicon spatial light modulator. To achieve this we utilize two different approaches leading to two different configurations in the modulator. The first one, based on a spatially patterned diffractive lens, permits us to obtain the desired spectrum along the optical axis and, in the second one, which is based on a generalized spectrometer, the desired spectrum is found outside of the optical axis. Experimental results show good agreement with the theory and indicate the validity of this technique.

While intense laser irradiation and moiré engineering have independently proven powerful for tuning material properties on demand in condensed matter physics, their combination remains unexplored. Here we exploit tilted laser illumination to create spatially modulated light-matter interactions, leading to two striking phenomena in graphene. First, using two lasers tilted along the same axis, we create a quasi-1D supercell hosting a network of Floquet topological states that generate controllable and scalable photocurrents spanning the entire irradiated region.

Background: Existing environmental quality indices often fail to account for the varying health impacts of different exposures and exclude socio-economic status indicators (SES).
Objectives: To develop and validate a comprehensive Environmental Quality Health Index (EQHI) that integrates multiple environmental exposures and SES to assess mortality risks across Australia.
Methods: We combined all-cause, cardiovascular, and respiratory mortality data (2016-2019) from 2,180 Statistical Areas Level 2 with annual mean values of 12 environmental exposures, including PM, ozone, temperature, humidity, normalized difference vegetation index, night light, road and building density, and socioeconomic status.

We present the synthesis, structural analysis, and remarkable reactivity of the first carbon nanohoop that fully incorporates ferrocene in the macrocyclic backbone. The high strain imposed on the ferrocene by the curved nanohoop structure enables unprecedented photochemical reactivity of this otherwise photochemically inert metallocene complex. Visible light activation triggers a ring-opening of the nanohoop structure, fully dissociating the Fe-cyclopentadienyl bonds in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline.

In light of the recent unprecedented wildfires in Canada and the potential for increasing burned areas in the future, there is a need to explore post-fire salvage harvest and restoration and the implications for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Salvage logging and replanting initiatives offer a potential solution by regrowing forests more quickly while meeting societal demands for wood and bioenergy. This study presents a comprehensive modeling framework to estimate post-fire salvage biomass and net GHG emissions relative to a 'do-nothing' baseline for all of Canada's harvest-eligible forests.

We introduce a novel neuromorphic network architecture based on a lattice of exciton-polariton condensates, intricately interconnected and energized through nonresonant optical pumping. The network employs a binary framework, where each neuron, facilitated by the spatial coherence of pairwise coupled condensates, performs binary operations. This coherence, emerging from the ballistic propagation of polaritons, ensures efficient, network-wide communication.
