Altered thrombin generation with prothrombin complex concentrate is not detected by viscoelastic testing: an in vitro study.

Br J Anaesth

Background: Bleeding guidelines currently recommend use of viscoelastic testing (VET) to direct haemostatic resuscitation in severe haemorrhage. However, VET-derived parameters of clot initiation, such as clotting time (CT) and activated clotting time (ACT), might not adequately reflect a clinically relevant interaction of procoagulant and anticoagulant activity, as revealed by thrombin generation assays. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of CT and ACT to indicate thrombin generation activity.

Background and objective The use of ivermectin and nitazoxanide in the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been a subject of controversy. In this study, we aimed to describe our clinical experience in treating COVID-19 patients with these drugs in Mexico. Material and methods The study involved out- and inpatient clinical assessments of COVID-19 patients conducted in Mexico City from September 2020 to November 2021.

Hemophilia A (HA) patients under emicizumab prophylaxis may require the concomitant use of procoagulant factors for breakthrough bleedings or immune tolerance induction (ITI). The aim of this study is to evaluate the ex vivo procoagulant effect of plasma-derived FVIII concentrates containing von Willebrand factor (pdFVIII/VWF) in samples from patients with severe HA without inhibitors on emicizumab prophylaxis. Samples from healthy controls (HC) and HA patients were drawn in sodium citrate plus corn trypsin inhibitor tubes and spiked with increasing concentrations of pdFVIII/VWF concentrates (10-400 IU/dL) (Fanhdi/Alphanate, Grifols), activated prothrombin complex concentrate (aPCC, 0.

Context: Studies describing the coagulation profile in adrenal adenomas still need to be added.

Objective: We explored how sex and mild autonomous cortisol secretion (MACS) affect coagulation parameters in patients with adrenal adenomas.

Design: Cross-sectional study.

Article Synopsis
  • Newborns have a unique hemostatic profile that makes it hard to assess their blood clotting ability, especially in preterm babies who may have complications like patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).
  • This study investigates platelet function in newborns using a system called T-TAS01, measuring factors like Occlusion Start Time (OST) and Area Under the Curve (AUC) in both preterm and term infants over different ages.
  • Results show significant delays in clotting times and lower platelet activity in preterm infants, particularly those with PDA, indicating that T-TAS01 is effective but highlights variability in preterm cases.
